What sort of flybuys targeted offers would you like?

I've been reading some of the web articles on the end of the my5 program. Most of the articles give the impression that Flybuys will be sending a lot more targeted offers by email and some of the articles suggest that these offers will be different to the previous pattern of targeted offers.

I've just received a set of coupons for each of our two household flybuys accounts. My coupons are rather ordinary as they want me to spend $120 every second week to get 500 bonus points and the other weeks I get triple points. I am wondering what other sort of incentives they will offer trying to get me to spend this much. This week they tried offering triple points which would have given me over 800 points for the transaction but this to me doesn't represent enough in savings. I would also have been able to use a tell coles voucher to get $5 off as well. This still isn't enough for me given that I can get $10 off every week for eight weeks on my partners coupons by only getting the register total to $50 before the coupon works.

I'm wondering what flybuys will do with my account on the weeks that have the triple points coupons. Will they offer me a fuel voucher or come up with a promotion they haven't tried before?

The news articles implied that Flybuys were going to use the my5 data to create targeted offers on specific items or groups of items. The other coupons we received included offers on meat, seafood, deli, bakery, fruit and vegetables. The my5 items we had were from these product groups so it is possible that they are going to use the my5 data in this way.

What types of offers do you think Flybuys will come up with? What offers would you be prepared to take up?

I'm actually quite happy with the targeted offers from Coles/Liquorland I've been getting ever since they ramped up this portion of the program, across all channels (direct post, direct email, at register).

The selection of targeted offerings in the last few months has included:

  • 2x or 3x on weekend spend (at least 4-6 of these)
  • 500pts for >$100 Coles
  • 500pts for >$40 Liquorland
  • product (Bam, Ajax, Mortein) and category specific (biscuts, cleaning, laundry) spend bonuses ranging anywhere from 100-500pts

Most of the offerings seem to be targeted around the time where i'm most likely to make a big spend, or purchase a quantity of products in a specific category.

As it stands since relaunch about 4-5mths ago, for a rather modest spend increase I've walked away with the better part of 6k pts from bonuses alone.

How about a docket deal offer, where the self serve checkouts realize that they aren't going to know if I bag the docket or not

If there is one thing I would wish they would do, is identify in the transactions what promotion the points came from. 175 points from the Notional Bonus Outlet is somehow not very satisfying, and makes it hard to verify which bonus points you've actually got!

I wish they would also give promotion information when they add the bonus points. I have an elaborate system of keeping track of which bonus points have been added and which aren't but after the relaunch it was very difficult to reconcile things. Some transactions appear on the day the points have credited and others are listed next to the original shopping trip which triggered the original spend. Sometimes points appear that I can't figure out what they are from because the amounts don't match anything I have listed. I have no idea whether these are someone elses points or whether the promotion was correct but the points haven't been calculated properly. I'm still chasing a target promotion from early September. My transaction record shows it hasn't been credited but they won't credit me the points until they investigate further. I have asked them to give more details for bonus point entries but even the call center sometimes can't tell me where the points are from.

I want more of the general product specific bonus points which credit to the account within 2 working days.

I wonder whether the flybuys system can track if a docket deal has been used more than once. I know there are EDR offers which are once only deals. Many of the targeted flybuys offers can be used multiple times. Is the barcode on the docket deal selective enough that it can only be used once. I've never tried using a docket deal at a self serve checkout. I know the tell coles vouchers can be used multiple times before the expiry date.

I'd like more docket deals with long expiry dates. I got a save $5 for spending $50 docket once but it had to be used within 3 days of the printout date. I had to rearrange my shopping in order to use the docket.

Flybuys should know by now I DON"T have a car and have NEVER used a fuel voucher.

So maybe:

* option to forgo the fuel voucher for more points - similar to EDR

* understand my spending habits and don't send me offers that require more than 50% of my average spend.

* look at some of the items i purchase regularly and give me deals on them.

Flybuys and EDR really need to look at how Tesco run their rewards scheme to see how truly valuable and loyal you can make it to customers if you tailor the rewards to the individual.

I agree with you about targeted offers and spending limits. I think flybuys tend to target the top of the spending range rather than the average spending range. I think EDR sometimes target the top of the range and sometimes just require you to spend $30 to get a reward of some sort. One of the reasons I have a flybuys account for me and one for my partner is that I didn't like the way they were targeting me at over $100 for all the general offers. I can usually only spend this amount once every couple of weeks. The only reason I used to spend $100 was to use a Tell Coles $5 voucher. We used my partner's card for small purchases and now that card get's offers targeted at around $50 or $60. They have tried to target that account for $70 and $80 but I have always refused to go above $60 on that account. If we need more than that in a week then I go back to my card. Since we moved to using my partner's card most of the time, the offers for my card have sometimes been under $100 but the rewards offered aren't good enough compared to the offers on my partner's card at the moment.

I don't know why they send fuel offers to people who have never used their fuel vouchers. I think there should be an option somewhere to say that you don't want fuel offers. I guess the offers assume that they think you buy petrol elsewhere rather than you never buy petrol. This is just my speculation. I agree that they need to work on their product specific targeting, but I think they have shown improvements in this area over the last 6 months or so.
