Hi,

Just wondering what everyone does to do some much flying, particularly the international flying ? I've always loved international trips but never really had frequent work trips a couple to north America and png aside. have done a lot of domestic flying for work but not international. do as much as possible in personal time for holidays and always tried to utilise mileage , have had 1 1st class trip with TG, and 1 business with both EY and QF return to Europe from mileage deals.

I'm in construction and changing to a roster position for 12months flying to Europe on each rotation to work in with my wife's 12 month career move.
In some ways I am dreading it and in other ways looking forward to the frequency of international flights 12 return trips to Europe in 12 months, especially as I get better status with the airline .

What line of work are you all in to fly so frequently?

I think we had a thread like this about 6 months ago. Glad to re-up that thread as I always found it interesting... but perhaps merged (mods?)

sorry

I searched but could find it, feel free to delete this one (could you find the other one?)

Thanks

Hey all,
Well,....I get around from Bne to Mel & Syd mostly...by Air atleast..

I make the Theatrical themed displays you generally don't notice due to gawking at the cute animals and fish when you are at places like Sealife Aquariums, Melbourne Zoo's, RockhamptonZoo, along with several Big4 themed holiday parks on the eastern seaboard.

Also just finished the new Lego Discovery centre at Chadstone Mall in Melbourne.

And there is the New Tiger Island at Dreamworld..

In the Aquariums ,for instance I do the artificial rock work in the tanks, along with rock work, shipwreck themes and interactive displays on the people side of the water.
Big4 parks include Treasure Island Pirate style themeing at Biggera Wters on Gold Coast and Waterpark at Billabong Tweed Heads.

Any given week will include, conncrete, sculpture, fibreglassing, painting, timberwork, animatronics, welding.....and followed by whatever new Skill I need to learn and master on the spot to achieve the clients vision.

Keeps the job VERY fresh.

Sadly no international work :(

And am looking to changeor evolve career, but ideally have it travel based....Love the Travel....must travel..must travel more .... ;-)

Thinking about becoming a Scuba Instructor.

Willing to take suggestions though?

Don't forget that one of the main things to get off AFF is how to fly a lot, or fly in premium cabins, without paying so much, and so the job ( ie pay) becomes much less relevant.

Some here are the biggest flyers and I understand always Fly on points ( which is not free, but damned cheaper than the other way). Me, I'm in Resource sector, so get flown a lot by clients.

I never travel for work, only leisure. I work as a nurse at a public hospital so no perks what so ever, but we do have rostered days off and can work around a set roster with accumulated days off, annual leave and public holiday leave. I can usually stretch my 5 weeks to about 12-14 per year.

But even though I can work my roster and leave quite well, for your own health, never, ever, ever get into a job that requires shift work. It might be ok the first few years, but constant work hour changes just stuffs you around completely.

Roseanna, I left shiftwork for that exact reason - night shifts destroy the body and the soul. So now I just do day shifts - but I fly FIFO around the world to do it :(

I rarely fly anywhere for biz these days, so I have to make it up as I go along :)

It's not how much you earn, its how you spend it.... Like Rooflyer says, its all about getting the most bang for your buck.

What do you do that is FIFO round the world ? I'm doing FIFO australia to ireland for 12months

I'm a senior executive in a national organisation. I live in Adelaide but travel domestically weekly and overseas quarterly.

I work in IT but that's not really relevant. I commute between SYD and BNE 3-4 times/month (from August plan is to reduce the commute to twice a month) and travel is self funded but that's not really relevant either. Add another 4-5 trips to Thailand every year and the flights add up.

I have a national role in Franchise Development, this allows me to travel around the country meeting current and potential Franchisees.
25% of my role is dedicated to Asia pacific and the development of our network in AP, so flights to Asia a couple of times a year and a trip to the International Franchise Associations conference in the US every year.

We don't really have a BFOTD rule but company prefers VA so this allows me to never book getaway fares and flights with Singapore/Delta etc.

I am a National Sales Manger. I work for a compnay that imports parts from the USA based in Indianapolis and Nashville strangely enough. We also have a warehouse in Singapore. So that sums up my airtime.
Good thread and as someone has already said, "interesting".
Safe travels.

I'm a General Manager for an Australian company in the sheepskin leather industry. We have a factory in China and wholesale in Australia, and regularly attend exhibitions around the world, mainly HK, China and Milan. I also travel to Istanbul twice a year for business as well bringing back leather samples. That's my opportunity to fly business class as I require the extra baggage and need to be rested.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I work in IT for a national company, I travel a little for work mainly between Sydney and Brisbane. But most of my points come from other earning potential, of the 1m points I racked up in the last 18months only ~70k where from actual flights.

I'm a private investor in tech companies.
Manage investments in Melbourne, Singapore, Tokyo, San Francisco and Washington DC.

About to make an investment in Vietnam.

i travel 2 weeks a month, typically 3-4 countries in 5 days within Asia and take 2-3 trips to USA. When I don't travel I laze about in BrisVegas.

All self funded, economy everywhere and PE to/from USA. Most USA tickets are return from LAX/SFO to Asia, PE usually less than $2k return, just need to plan in advance. Fly Southwest in USA, sometimes AA. Already clocked up 50+ nights w SPG this year, easy to do in Asia.

Cheers
BF
