I'm curious as to what AFF'ers have selected for their HHonors Double Dip earning preference. Obviously things vary according to stay patterns, how you value points etc but what is yours set to?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I always changed my option according to the stay. When I was using Hilton a lot was when I was chasing AA miles for my LTP.So always base miles + airline miles. If I was staying for an extended period or paying a high rate it was always variable miles. Now as a lot of my stays are at Hamptons it is virtually all variable miles as at Hamptons the fixed mileage is only 100.I value AA miles at much more than HH points.

If you select "HHonors Points and Fixed Miles" and then select Qantas as the airline, it's 1000 FF points per stay that's credited to your QF account, plus 10 points per US dollar to the HHonors account.

Same deal if you choose Virgin Australia rather than QF.

Like DrRon, I change my earning style with each stay to squeeze the maximum juice out. 1,000 QFF or VFF points is worth $30 to me in redemption, a HH point is worth about 0.5c each (to me) so, if the stay is short and the room cheap I'll choose hh + miles ...

$200/n = 2000 HH points + 1000 HHpoints = $17.5

$200/n = 2000 HH points + 1000 VFF or QFF = $10+30 = $40

The crossover obviously being when the stay is longer and the nights are more expensive. 6000HH points for the +50% bit is that marker. So a stay costing 1200US$ = 12000HH points and if the +HH points option is chosen then thats an additional 6000 points = 60+30 = $90. I make a quick estimate of on-charges to the room too (obviously) because those extra's also accrue HH points.

I'm working towards an over water bungalow in the Maldives so it's the bonus miles option for me at the moment. At one stage I had selected the fixed miles option, but got caught out when I forgot to change it for a 15 night stay. 1000QF points didn't cut the mustard for that length of stay!

I always have a problem with Virgin selected in my profile, as when I book Virgin Australia is not available from the drop down when booking.

Yes, the web interface is stuffed. What I do is go to HH, change to hhonors + hhonors, Then make my hotel booking, then back to hhonors to change my double dip to DJ. Its worked every time and I get credited within about 48 hours.

Noice :) How much for one of these in points? Where are you going? Conrad or Hilton?

QUOTE Note that you can change your D D earnings style up until midnight USA (EST?) on the day of check out.

I have the same problem with DJ not being a selectable partner, so I followed your advice above made a booking and then back to HH to change double dip..but still DJ eludes my dropdown box.

Hmm. More website craziness? Perhaps.

1) Log in to HH
2) Click on My Profile (from the left)
3) Click on Earning points + Miles
4) Here is listed my FF programs that I entered back when I joined HH. Make sure that Virgin Australia is listed and is the preferred (ticked) FF program. If it isn't there then add it with the add button (its at the bottom of the list), if it is there then you can make it preferred using the edit option.
5) Click on the "My Way" option (upper left of the screen)
6) Select your double dip earning style
7) Choose HHonors points and Fixed miles

Thats it!

Let me know if it works ... should do.

ThankS for the points layed out, I was going wrong at point 7 and selecting HH plus variable miles which I have now realized that virgin aust don't participate in.
thanks again for your help

Hi Guys,

A question, if I book a cash+points with conrad HKG, can I double dip? i.e. using HHonors Points and Variable Miles OR HHonors Points and Fixed Miles ?

Thanks,
K.

My understanding is that you will get points for all cash spend booked through to your room.

Its a good question though. One wonders if staying on partial or full rewards points, using points + fixed miles as your double dip method, would a meal for one at the restaurant if booked back to your room be enough to trigger the 1000 VFF or QFF points reward? Seems pretty generous if so.

And silly me voted without thinking.

My preference is Hilton Honors points + fixed airline miles not 1 airline mile per eligible US dollar spent.

My preference used to be Qantas, then VS Flying Club and recently it has been BMI Diamond Club....

So with this offer, what should I be selecting ? Normally I have always used 10 HHonors Base points per eligible U.S. dollar spent + 500 miles per stay which is whatever points + 1000 QF/VA points.....

I am assuming I'll just get 2000 points per stay now ?
