Hi. Can anyone shed light on what current rules are being applied to duty free purchases at BKK for departure to Australia as your final destination.

Are people still having purchases confiscated at secondary checks?

Leaving BKK tmw.

Cheers

We left BKK early March and the secondary screening was happening at the gate just before boarding. We were one of the last to board and it looked like the only things they confiscated were water and soft drinks. They did go right through everyone's carry on luggage (he was impressed with some of my camera gear). Jetstar flight, though the screening was done by the Thais working for the airport.

And the duty free stores will likely decline to sell you grog if you're bound for Aus.

As BensAddventure says.
Buy on the way-in.
Stick it in checked luggage for the journey home.

Still not able to purchase duty free alcohol before a flight to Australia.

If I want to bring back any alcohol with me then I purchase on arrival and I bring it back in my checked luggage.

Not directly refering to the OP question, but my last HKG-SYD flight in March(13) there was no LAG inspection on the aerobridge like there normally is. Has the rules been changed recently or was this just unusual?

It must be the departure country. CX in HKG always have the secondary checks and confiscate fluids. EK out of Dubai have a secondary checkin for alcohol at the gate and it is checked in.

My last flight HKG-SYD was with CX...no check was done...which surprised me no end! It was a lightly loaded flight, however I cant imagine that had any bearing on the non checking....
