Is it always free, sometimes free, free if there are operational difficulties or only free if in certain fare types?

If the flight is delayed 15 minutes or more, due to crewing or mechanical issues, it is free.

Free on flights under two hours.

Ta,

The pay-per-view movie component of live2air will only be available on selected
routes. Where there is a minimal signal/satellite coverage, the FOXTEL/AUSTAR
component of live2air may be available free of charge, at the sole discretion of the
cabin crew. The in-flight signal may be lost in turbulence, and/or if banking of the
aircraft is required. Signal may be limited or not available on flights outside of
Australian airspace.

live2air is included in the price of a Flexi or Premium fare, and available for purchase
for Guests travelling on a Saver fare;
Flights under 2 hours Free of Charge
Flights over 2 hours AUD $9.90
Virgin Money Credit Card provides 50% discount off the normal price of live2air when
purchases are made with a Virgin Flyer or No Annual Fee Credit Card. The discount
will appear on your credit card statement. This offer may be withdrawn at any time
without notice.

Doesn't explain some of my recent flights, but still does explain most of them.

DRW-MEL last week was free for everyone (I was on a saver fare), with the exception of the three movie channels. It may have fallen into the limited satellite coverage category, but it wasn't explained that way - just advised it was free except movie channels.

If your flight is more than two hours, it's free if you are on a flexi fare, travelling on a saver fare you have to pay.

Could that explain why some of your flights have been free?

Most flights is now free. However not all movie channels are available. Its mostly up to the cabin crew for flights over 2 hours.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Not all. Some flights yes. At the moment I've been travelling under Flexi . Some yet-to-be-booked flights will be in Saver. Was curious after my CNS-BNE flight was free Live2Air, including the ungrateful prick next to me. Very few Flexi's onboard (I think it was only a few), and PE only had 2 or so. But everyone seemed to have free Live2Air.

Perhaps it's a zone thing... ie certain zones get free Live2Air. Just seems like a strange implementation of their policies. (Or ... poor staff training).

No such thing as zoning. It's either On, Off or Free for all.

Sounds to be as if you had a lazy CS ?

I would call the free on flights less than 2 hours rule (not that it seems to be applied anymore) zoning!

I meant zoning to be mean certain sectors of the plane.... not certain flights.

Perhaps it's something to do with the difficulty of allowing L2A to be shown free to Flex customers or something similar.

That probably makes the most sense. If the crew don't want to come to each flexi and swipe them (as stated in the past, upwards of 100 flexis are experienced on some flights), the next best thing is make it free for all. My last week flights (OOL-MEL-OOL) were both over two hours and both free, but the OOL-MEL leg was 3 hours late with engineering so that might possibly explain that freebie ;)

Unless there is a lot of flexi pax or they are short on time I don't see a problem. Crew just swipe their ASIC to enable L2A for each flexi pax. This is usually done as they deliver the flexi meals.

Perhaps.....

The unwritten rule is that all east coast flights now get free L2A?

Will they remove the LTA when they refit these ac, even when there is no alternative in place yet? Anyone know?

Sent from my iphone and AFF app :)

The LTA aircraft are not going to get a refit AFAIK, they are being retired/sold/returned to owner.

That makes sense if majority are leased

The aircraft with LTA aren't getting a refit/repaint? That's the first I've heard of that... They would be getting rid of most of the fleet then!

Well look at it this way.

All of the current 737-700's have L2A fitted apart from VH-VBU.

All of them are leased and are returning to there owners very shortly, already 5 have left. Only 2 of the current -700's will stay and be re-configured and painted which are VH-VBY & VH-VBZ because they are owned by Virgin.

With the -800's there is 38 737-800's in the fleet (Virgin not PB operated) and out of them 38, there is 21 fitted with Live2air. VH-VUN is the newest 737-800 with live2air fitted. VH-VUN was delivered in late 2007. This aircraft is painted on the hybrid Pacific Blue scheme but operated on Virgin's behalf. So i would say aircraft starting at VH-VU range will stay and be re-configed with a new IFE system. The rest that are not leaving this year will have the new interior installed.

20 Aircraft will be retired by 2013.

That is what i think will happen, and what i have said sounds correct with the plans going ahead.
