I notice that my current abode is offering a F&B credit of AU$15 per each day we forgo the housekeeping service.

This is the first time I've seen such an offer and I personally hate making a bed and it's +1's X'mas holiday as well, so we'll take the housekeeping, thanks.

It has got me thinking though, as to how many would accept the offer?

I'm not sure if the offer stands for a one night booking, but I'm guessing it doesn't. We're here for a number of nights.

Bit miserable for the staff? Presumably they work fewer hours or get less tips if they don't clean rooms :(

When I saw "room service" I originally thought you meant service from the kitchen etc. So I change my thoughts and NO i wouldn't accept $15 for giving up the make up of my room. I want fresh towels, new soap, my rubbish bins emptied, and my coffee cups changed

This type of thing was offered in some US chains maybe 5 years ago, but it seemed to have petered out.

Personally I would accept the offer if it was cash off the bill, but not if its a F&B credit.

Sorry no. I meant the daily room cleaning, make up or what ever it's called.

Whenever I see "room service" I assume F&B room service but clearly you mean housekeeping :)

As a mostly single traveler I don't need housekeeping to service my room every day and will have DND enabled probably 4 of seven days each week. An extra $60 credit each week won't be declined ;)

I'd assume since many hotels now outsource the housekeeping department, finance have crunched the numbers and seen a real benefit to offer the F&B credit (which in itself would cost the hotel far less than $15) over the per room cleaning cost.

No! Part of the enjoyment of a hotel stay/ holiday for me is that I don't have to do the cleaning, bed making etc. I want fresh towels (I change mine regularly at home) and want the shampoo etc stocked up.

I think I'd only do it on a long term stay if they gave bigger amenities or made it easy to grab extras.

I'm fine without towels / sheets being changed for a couple of days, and often loosely make the bed anyway - hate an unmade bed

Often depends on what kind of holiday it is but I'm finding that they are doing less and less and really only make the bed and change the towels and rarely even wipe down the bathroom sink or clean the toilet. So yes I'd take the $15 off most times

For longer stays, I'm happy to forgo the odd day. As a solo traveller, there are usually plenty of towels so no problem there, and you can always request extra soap and shampoo to cover you.

It's a sham.

$15 "credit" is nothing but an inducement to get you to spend on F&B when you otherwise may spend $0.

I answered Yes as we only request Housekeeping every second day but we don't usually eat at the hotel so a food and beverage credit could be wasted.

If I pay to stay at a hotel I want all the pampering I can get. The $15 on F&B is just an inducement to spend more money where you otherwise wouldn’t.

Most places we stay do a turndown service .... wouldn’t give that up for a lousy beer or two.

And the chocolate on the pillow.

We sometimes say no to turn down or room cleaning (if it's late that day) as we are settled in for the night but hubby still asks for his comp chocolate.
