Hi all,

For future reference as this has already happened.(I have to find out details of result..they just landed)
Selected window seat on 777-300ER via points and the airline changed the plane.....how do they determine where you get your seat?
Do you have to reselect seat or are you required to be seated where your put on a QFF points ticket?

IME your seat allocations/selections disappear when there's a change of aircraft. QF doesn't automatically allocate you new ones so it's up to you to use MMB to select new seats. Even a change of only 5 minutes in the departure time (without necessarily having a change of metal) can trigger a loss of seat selections. I've had this happen to me multiple times on 280K RTW reward bookings especially with IB & QR operated flights

And add to this meal selections. I suspect this was the reason a special meal selection failed to board.

You don't have to select seat but have to sit in the allocated seat as per boarding pass. But suggest that your selection will always be better than computer (if available).

Irrespective of whether you flight has been changed, it's always good FF practice to periodically check that your selections are sticky

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would just go to the EK website and do the seating there. I travelled on a Classic/Partner award using QF points to fly EK and although I was initially allocated a window seat automatically I wanted to change it. When I tried to change it on the QF website it looked like it worked however when I looked at the seat map on Expert Flyer it showed 'my' new seat as being unoccupied.

When I changed my seat on the EK website the new selection stuck.

EK are apparently introducing a seat selection fee on their cheapest fares effective 03 Oct 2016 so I'd do it sooner rather than later.

Any SSR's (special service requests) such as meals, seats, chauffeur drive, WCHR, MAAS etc will be wiped when there is a change of flight as it's essentially cancelling and rebooking. This goes for upgrade requests as it's a cancellation of eg an 'S' class seat being replaced by a 'U' class one.

This happened to me (albeit I have plenty of time before I fly) flying Sydney to Doha on QR (booked for December) when they came out and announced that for "peak season" the 777 will now be an A380. I was automatically assigned a new seat under my booking, however, I chose to go in and manually changed it to another one. To be fair, the one that they chose for me was in a similar location in the plane (i.e up the front section of Y, left hand side, window seat).

QR have a small whY section upper deck behind J however when I flew them BKK/DOH I found you had to embark and disembark via the rear staircase so took forever to get off the plane.

It was a welcome relief to board QF2 in DXB and be able to board and disembark via the door on the upper deck.

Slightly off-topic from the OP, so apologies, but apart from the delays in embarking/disembarking, in relation to the time in the air, did you prefer being in a smaller section on the upper deck compared to full section downstairs?
