Hi,

If you're a Qantas Gold member and you choose to pay to join the Qantas Club, would they simply accept your application but put the membership on hold until such time as you drop out of Gold?

I'm likely to achieve Gold within 3 months. I also have ability to join the Qantas club for a discounted rate but only within this year. I doubt I can maintain Gold next year from flying but wish to retain my Club membership for as long as possible.

To maximise the membership, I'd like to achieve Gold then join the club for discounted rate right before the end of the calendar year to maximise the length of my membership. Would this be possible?

The alternative is to join the Club now at the discounted rate that I can get, then achieve Gold and have my membership deferred until such time as I drop out of Gold. But this means I need to spend money now.

Thanks.

Join Qantas Club now and as soon as you reach Gold your Qantas club membership will go on hold.

The online system won't allow you to join if you're a gold. I imagine other channels to be the same.

Or spend the membership fee on a status run to hopefully make up the difference............ Ok, not my best idea ever. :)

Your membership goes on hold. If you should ever fail to qualify at least SG in the furure, your QP membership will be reinstated for it's remaining period.

There have been a couple of reports of a pro-rated refund for some who subsequently achieved life time SG.

the answer really depends on how cheap is the fee you can get. I renewed @ $100 a year when I knew I would make gold within the period of the membership. The standard QC fee is about $400 per year (probably plus an application fee). for me if your discount was $300 I wouldn't bother But if it was $200 or less then maybe I would buy the membership. since it does go on hold when you get gold.

On another note, I just went to find the relevant clause in the T&Cs but I can't find the Qantas club conditions at all. Am I just going blind?

if you reach gold you will be gold for the remainder of the current membership year and your next membership year so I wouldn't spend the money now, you never know what might happen travel wise, you could maintain gold anyway

I was Gold then Plat then Gold and now Silver mmm, anyways had 2+ years of QF lounge left from many years ago, so once I dropped down they automatically resurrected it. Long haul don't need it as we go J anyway.

Same as Limewood, paid QC, achieved Gold, placed on hold (I hope) haven't dropped back yet

Paid for Life QC about 20 years ago, now achieved LTG, can I put my Life QC on hold "for the next life" and just use my LTG?

you can ask for pro rata refund I think

I think that would be difficult, what is "pro rata" for a "lifetime fee"?

Not an impossible problem, just assume an average lifetime of say 20 or 30 or 40 years. $1000/20 =$50 per year. Then (20 - number of years of use) *$50=refund. At least that's how I would do it, and probably aim for as short a lifetime as possible.
