What does "no show" mean in the fare rules?

I can see "no show" and a value next to it under fare rules.

Does that mean if you miss the flight that you get the "no show" value refunded?

No - it means the No Show fee will be deducted from any refund that you may be eligible for under the fare rules.

It could depend on the airline, but I understand it to mean the price you paid for the ticket less the "no show" fee. Usually, it's a few hundred dollars so enough to discourage you for letting the ticket go without calling to change it or make some sort of arrangements.

Having said that I've been very lucky when being based in China to sleep through my alarm (usually self-inflicted) and two different airlines put me on the next available without too much trouble. Also happened when I turned up at the right time but the wrong date. I would think this would be very hard to pull off in AU/US/EU where they would say do not pass GO, go straight to the sales desk!

Yeah I'm trying to work out the risk factor with having 2 tickets.

There is about 3 hours between flights and I'm not sure if there is an internal transfer desk.

Scenario 1: everything goes smooth, collect suitcases and check in on time.

Scenario 2: running late and dash for connecting flight, but leave the luggage behind

Scenario 3: worst case and miss the connecting flight

Best would be to actually go the night before and sleep in a hotel but there are some other challenges with that date wise.

The last time I flew through FRA, it was on QF so I'm afraid I can't help you here...

If you miss your connecting flight on a separate ticket the onward flight will be the 'no show' fee plus any difference in fare (which could be substantial).

There is no guarantee with a transfer desk that they will through check yuor bags, you may need to collect them and re-check, but that would depend on the airlines involved. Either they will through-check at check-in, or probably not likely at all (transfer desk or not).

If you dash for your connecting flight but leave your luggage, the luggage will not be transported onwards for you. It will be stuck in FRA. You'd need to arrange a courier or baggage service to somehow get the bag and send it. Unless there was anything like a battery in there in which case they won't.
