Was just thinking about this as these days more and more countries get the airlines to do their dirty work and collect various taxes, charges and levies which is paid when pax purchases their airline ticket but what cities do you still have to cough up cash for at the airport prior to clearing customs?

Bali
If you travel to DPS you need to pay for a VOA (visa on arrival) which can be paid in various currencies or on a credit card, but what about departure tax from Bali? Can this only be paid in cash or can you use other currencies or credit card payment also?

Wellington Airport NZ (International flights only).
$NZ25 Adults, $NZ10 2-11 y.o , $NZ0 < 2 y.o.

Rotorua Airport NZ
$NZ5 Domestic.
$NZ25 International.

Queenstown Airport NZ (International flights only)
$NZ25 (12 y.o +)

Jakarta Airport, ID
IDR150,000 (International)
IDR 30,000 (domestic)

Cambodian airports charge a USD25 international departure tax, which is paid after check-in and prior to clearing immigration.

Philippines airports also have a PHP400 international departure tax, payable at the airport.

FTE (El Calafate); Argentinian pesos 38

PS: You have to pay USD100 reciprocity tax when you arrive at EZE (Buenos Aires) if you have an Australian passport:evil:

Vancouver charges money for airport restoration! I think it was CAD20 when I last past through 4 years ago.

DPS departure tax was cash only when we travelled in April. The only ATM is located outside security so if you don't have enough you need to go out and then in again.

Perhaps an oddball addition to the list, but..:

HAV (Havana, Cuba)
CUC25 departure tax, payable after check in and before immigration/security

Actually at Manila this is PHP750 (~$18AUD) payable in cash only. For domestic flights from Manila it is PHP200. Amounts vary at other airports within Philippines.

So does that mean the Argentinians have to shell out the equivalent on arrival in Oz?

So for those of us who have dual citizenship, seems like a good time to flash the other passport! :p

Operation Reciprocity.....reminds me of the movie Clear and Present Danger.

This is a bit out of the way I guess but we paid a local airport fee (not exactly a departure tax as it is levied by the airport operator) when departing from Cusco, Peru last year. I think it was about USD $15. We also paid a departure tax when flying out of Buenos Aires, Argentina of around the same amount.

When I left EZE in July (ticket purchased in March), I had to pay the airport departure fee at the QF counter (in addition to the USD100). I can't remember exactly how much it was though - maybe less than AUD20.

Strange...I was told the departure tax was included in my ticket when I left Eze on QF in March 10:shock:

Not that there is likely to be a rush of AFFs wanting to go tomorrow, but Belize's Philip Goldson International Airport charges US$20 - payable by cash or credit card whilst going through security - and surprisingly were really efficient!

Unbelizeable!:D
