I found an older thread relating to the sale of The Westin Sydney in 2015... and I guess this is where they were heading after that.

Another Marriott/SPG Exit: Westin Sydney Becomes The Fullerton Hotel Sydney On October 18, 2019

From Loyalty Lobby: Fullerton Hotels today announced that they have signed management agreement for the current Westin Sydney that will switch flags on October 18, 2019 to become the Fullerton Hotel Sydney (another Marriott/SPG exit).

I don't see a lot of AFFers talking about The Westin Sydney as a preferred location, so hopefully not too many are put out from this group, but still a shame to see a Marriott/SPG option go, as it tightens up availability on reward nights with the others. Looking forward to the W's arrival, and the Ritz's return.

Cheers
Matt.

I read this article the other day as well.

It's a bit of a shame as I thought this Westin was in a really good central location. The Sheraton on the Park appears to be a nice hotel, but as it's on Elizabeth Street it's terrible for traffic, and getting a cab to go against the traffic if you're heading in the other direction of the drive-in-out driveway never works. I wouldn't recommend the hotel specifically for this reason.

I am a regular at the Westin and will miss it. Great club lounge and I just love the building. Once they got rid of the health club though a month or so ago (as it had a pool) then I rarely chose it any more.

How can a 5 star hotel have no pool or gym?

The Westin Sydney has been my go to in SYD for years so I'll rue this decision deeply. Looks like it'll be the Hilton for me from 2019.

I guess apart from SOTP, the Marriott at Circular Quay will be the other option for SPG/Marriott elites, but less centrally located I guess, depending on where you want/need to be.

Yes, I also liked the location. It's a shame. Although Sheraton on the Park is now Sheraton Grand. And their recent refurb is quite nice.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've stayed there, great location, very nice lobby lounge and although interiors show some signs of ageing, its a great hotel. The westin at Martin place will be sorely missed.
