This forum is a place to share stopover tips and recommendations for specific airports/cities with other AFF members.

Do you have a great stopover tip or recommendation that other travellers might find useful? Add your suggestions to the dedicated thread for that airport, and your advice could make it into an AFF Stopover Guide article! A new Stopover Guide article for a different airport will be published each week.

Tips for each airport could include:
  • How to get from the airport to the city
  • Things to do (both near the airport and in the city)
  • Where to stay/hotel recommendations (both near the airport and in the city)
  • The best lounge/s at that airport
  • Airport facilities such as luggage storage and showers
  • Any other destination-specific tips or "hidden gems" you've discovered that could be useful for someone with a stopover
Note that only moderators can create new threads in this forum. If you have a question about a destination not (yet) covered in this forum, you are welcome to ask in the Destination Guide forum.

If you would like to suggest an airport to be featured, you may do so in this thread.

Great idea to have a thread for each airport. Do I understand correctly that a mod has to start each thread? Can I suggest that the thread title be in the format "City Name, Airport Code, Country". And can I ask thus for one to be created "Santiago, SCL, Chile" ?

Yes, either myself or a moderator needs to start each thread in this forum. The first threads will be added shortly and yes, SCL is on the list of threads to be added in the first round. :)

I'm sure they are on your list but HND, NRT (esp for transport tips!) JFK, DFW, MIA and KUL are my suggestions for next round.

Great idea for a topic(s), could we add an item about luggage storage availabilty.
Where I can leave luggage for the day or overnight during the stopover.

Yes, absolutely!

I've added "airport facilities" to the list.

Feel free to include any advice you have about luggage storage in the airport-specific thread/s.

I'd like to add Lima, LIM, Peru.

Could also assist with other South American ports, GIG, GRU,

Good idea for the new sub-forum and will make it easier to search.

Agree, and would also suggest MNL as it's become busier than MEL, and IST, an airport I found easy to use in getting to and from the city and that if TK ever operate to Australia may be much more on the radar.

I haven't used CAN and CZ still doesn't seem to carry large numbers of Caucasian Australians when I've observed check in queues but it and others like PVG are also major airports.

Overall, the usual high standard of posts from Mattg, who writes extremely well in an engaging style.

The next round of cities have been added to this forum. If you have a tip for any of the following airports, please add it in the relevant thread :)
  • Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
  • Frankfurt (FRA)
  • Perth (PER)
  • Brisbane (BNE)
  • Auckland (AKL)
  • Tokyo (HND & NRT)
  • Bali (DPS)
  • Honolulu (HNL)
  • Guangzhou (CAN)
  • Nadi (NAN)
  • Manila (MNL)
  • Sao Paulo (GRU)

@AFF Editor , could we have a stopover thread on Seoul, please? Just about to post a thread for ideas for a one-night stopover (current threads are mostly well out of date) - an 'official' one might be better :)

if you are looking to add a series, some European capitals might be useful: Rome, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid?
