Hi

Heading to Frankfurt in Sep this year. Will have a free weekend and a hire car. Monday will need to be in Stuutgart for meetings so any suggestions on which city to spend the weekend Frankfurt or Stuttgart and I will have access to a car so can travel to some where else nearby..

Interests are all things auto and castles etc... I am a Male in mid 40's if that helps.

Cheers

Welcome to AFF!

Germany in September is a nice place to be!

IMHO, Stuttgart would be a better option for you than Frankfurt. Not really that much of interest around Franfurt.

You have both the Porsche museum and the Mercedes Benz museum within Stuttgart.

Just north east of Stuttgart there's the Sinsheim auto technik museum; http://www.australianfrequentflyer....to-technik-museum-sinsheim-germany-43309.html and the other part of it directly north of Stuttgart (have a look at the Sinsheim website).

Just south of Stuttgart (approx 50km) there is Hohernzollern Castle, and further south (approx 2 hour drive) is Neuschwanstein Castle.

All of the above are worth a visit.

It's also worthwhile having a look at Dinkelsbühl or Rothenburg ob der Tauber for some 15th century towns that have remained intact.

Yeah Frankfurt wasn't that interesting to be frank... :)

So Stuttgart sounds better... I'm hoping to visit Neuschwanstein in July when i visit Munich and seen some nice pictures of Rothenburg so wouldn't mind getting there some time...

I would probably spend one day in Stuttgart and one visiting Schloss Neuschwanstein and Munich. I believe you could drive to the castle in the morning and Munich in the afternoon.. It would be a big loop from Stuttgart. Munich is a beautiful city with lots to see and depending on when you travel you may be able to go to Oktoberfest! BMW Welt (BMW world) is near the Olympic park in Munich and has a large BMW museum and showroom, and you can even tour the factory for a fee. Marienplatz in the city is also nice.

I will be in and out of all the motor factories and the motor show in frankfurt for work. going to hate that !! So it's some other suggestions I am after.

Cheers

The area around Stuttgart is lovely, Ludwigsburg is a nice town you sadly are too late for the wine festival.

Well I am flying out of Frankfurt, and wanted somewhere nearby for a few days after Berlin. I settled on Heidelberg.

Sehr gut! I was going to suggest that - I remember asking my best friend to take a photo of me behind the prison bars within the ruins of the famous schloss (castle). This lock up had nothing to do with me being a poor backpacker in our uni days though...

Wurzburg is also worth a visit. Have a look around Marienberg Fortress.
Bamberg is also nice - various sights and home to Sclenkerla Brewery (smoked beer).

I would be looking at football matches in the Bundesliga.
You could go to matches in Frankfurt, Hoffenheim, Stuttgart, Munich, Nuremberg and Augsburg.
If you want combine castles/architecture and football I would choose either between Nuremberg or Munich.
