On impulse this morning I booked a tour with Webjet to Peru, Galapagos Islands and The Amazon. ( 24 days). I have since Googled and read some terrible reviews about Webjet Australia and a few good ones.. Has anyone had personal experience of this tour or with this company? I have only paid a deposit at this stage, so will wear the cost of that if necessary.

It's confusing. I thought webjet just sold the services of other providers, but in the case of their tours they don't seem to show who is actually running and operating the tour. I'd be surprised if it is actually webjet themselves. You'd need to find out the tour operator and google that for reviews. You have 48 hours to cancel according to their terms and conditions by the look of it.

As for webjet the company... I don't trust them. While they have a simple website to compare prices (handy), they add a 'price lock guarantee' which is a hefty surcharge to 'guarantee' flight prices. I haven't found a way to opt out of this charge. As such I see it as dishonest, and also feel it misleads customers by advertising prices on their site for airfares which cannot actually be booked (it's always the airfare AND webjet's service fee AND price lock). This can add $50 on to the advertised fare you could often pick up somewhere else.without all the additions. Fare locks should never be necessary.

I have checked and the travel company appears to be very reputable in South America and has some good reviews. Re the 48 hours to cancel, I have read reviews that some people have difficulty with this if they change their minds, even within the 48 hours. One of the clauses I read where a refund is not possible states " If you change your mind after you have purchased a deal (for whatever reason);" You purchase the deal when you pay the deposit.

If the company operating the tour is reputable you will be ok :) The whole webjet system of 'guarantees' is suspicious. I'd steer clear of them in future and book your tours through another source... if webjet is offering them, so is someone else.

Thank you for your advice re the 48 hour cancellation clause, I have tried to get in touch with the company with no success, however I did send an email 24 hours after the booking, cancelling. I just don't trust them with the flights after reading the numerous reviews. I am going to look at booking the same tour with someone else. I have contacted my credit card company, and disputed the payment for the deposit, as they are just not getting back to me. Sounds like they at least will do the right thing.
