Not sure whether this is OK to be discussed or not. If not PLEASE DELETE this thread. I don't want to offend anyone.

Was travelling from Bangkok on Monday from BKK - SIN - SYD. I had priority pass through Bangkok airport. There were other pax also and a muslim family of five. The mother was wearing a niqab. I have NO ISSUES with niqab or burkas at all. Going through security I had to remove my shoes, belt and empty all my pockets but she just seems to walk through security check. Her husband went through the normal process. At passport control her husband stepped up with all the passports, the officer looked at the dad, the kids and mum and waved them through. WOW so easy. I thought there was a special room for religious groups.

At Kul, I have seen the wearer approach a female immigration officer, who then nodded, and the wearer removed the niqab so the officer could see her face.

Your shoes, belt, and contents of your pocket can set off the metal detector, or confuse the body scanner. Presumably a niqab is just cloth and doesn't.

I'm guessing that the majority of people would have something in their pocket, especially men. Each secondary inspection (watch, boots ect) would take more time, due to the volume of people, so everyone has to remove these.

A person wearing a head scarf of some sort ordinarily would not set off the security alarm so again, saves time as they only have to address the person who does.

Well that's my uneducated assumption.

niqab never parted her face.

Did not see her removing her shoes and placing the in the tray.

Anyway enough said.

Mrs GPH has wheelchair support when we arrived in GGK on Saturday evening. We were whisked (very efficiently) off the plane, and when we were at immigration we were stood to one side (behind) the customs officer, our passports were taken across for checking (and stamping). We were not looked at by anyone for ID purposes ! Then we completely bypassed any scrutiny at the customs/ security before exiting the terminal.

You actually used the wheelchair service after landing? She obviously wasnt on a miracle flight, you know when 18 people board via wheelchairs but 16 walk off :)

Hope Mrs GPH is feeling better soon.

She is usually fine over short distances, but speed and distance are an issue so it will be that way for a while I suspect.
