We will be in The Wirral :p in mid September and we have five days to tour and a car. My great grandfather was Welsh but with mum gone I have no details other than the name Jenkins. But I don’t need to try retrace anyway.

So what, exactly, is there to do. Or does anyone have any other ideas for the area. The Wirral is across the Mersey from Liverpool. You know the song!

I liked Liverpool when I was there last year - lots of historic buildings if that floats your boat. Do NOT go to the museum - it is CARP. I was surprisingly moved by the Hillsborough memorial. I enjoyed all the Beatles stuff including their statues on the waterfront with some beautiful buildings.

Chester is a lovely place to visit if you haven't been there - lots of black and white buildings

I love Snowdownia national park and if you can try and catch the train up Mt Snowdon - you do need to pick your days because it can get some poor weather but that time of year will be good because school will have gone back

I stayed here Marlin Cottage: A Beautiful, cosy well appointed Cottage just outside ... - 6504264 in Conwy - nice little town and excellent holiday cottage - easy walk to pubs and restaurants

Portmeirion - Wikipedia - really enjoyed visiting this place as well

If you're a National Trust member and like old houses there are some lovely gardens and old home around there as well

Happy to answer more questions if you want

Liverpool - not the best photo but I did a ferry on the Mersey and it was a bit bleak when we came back in. The three old buildings are called the three graces

So Conwy seems like the go. That B&B looked great. If we stayed there is it a good base to explore around or would a movable feast be better.

We are doing a ferry on the Mersey to get to and from The Wirral.

I wonder if there are Outlander Stones in Wales. I fancy a bit of time travel :D

Conwy is great base. About an hour or so to Chester, Snowdon and Portmerion. I have to warn you the stairs in the Hiliday place are narrow and steep but I managed and I’m no mountain goat I did a TR on Wales that I’ll find and send you the link

Another vote for Conwy. But do go down to Snowdonia - gorgeous and nice lodging and great food. I did a drive through in just 2 days and regretted not planning more time there. See bit of a TR here. You'll see Chester after Wales there - worth a look if you like historic towns.
