Tossing up between Singapore and NZ for a one way premium economy flight, vote away if you'd like

*Price is close enough to equal

Where from/to? Transit/Stopover? Where? How Long? Lounge access? Price? Seat Preselection?

All these are factors I would consider before deciding.

Sounds like Newark as 18.5hr flight?

Hmm tough one. If business I'd say SQ and spend a few days in Singapore beforehand.

If premium economy. Shortest one wins for me, also heard good things about air NZ premium economy product

We did so Singapore to Toronto last year on Eva air so broke it up in TPE with a 4-5hr stop over which was great

Yeah Brisbane to Newark/LaGuardia. Preferably LaGuardia but not essential. I'm taking Qantas back via Sydney and I have flown VA before and liked it, but just wanted to try something new this time. I was insane to fly to NYC via dxb a few years ago, all in the pursuit of avoiding the departure times that Qantas and Virgin have 😂 Literally flew twice as far as I needed to, but I really don't regret it. Loved seeing Dubai and liked the EK A380 product.

I only have a meagre amount of Krisflyer/SA points so that isn't really a deciding factor for me as to who to fly. But I'm still leaning towards NZ. 41" pitch on a 777 in comparison to Qantas A380 38"?!

*ETA: I have a priority pass membership, but unsure at this stage which lounges I could access in Auckland or Changi

Given the further info- take the EWR flight! At least you can credit to Velocity.

No shortage of PP lounges at Changi; At AKL there's the PP Strata lounge.

Thanks so much, definitely looking at NZ at this stage. My journey back will be with Qantas in late September, do you know if it will have finished its refurb by then? I read through all 31 pages of its dedicated thread last night and it looked like there was a delay at some point?

Unlikely as they're not doing anything over this current period and it's taking roughly 2 months each go last I read. They've done 3 so far. But there will be more done by then, so as @serfty says, good odds you'd get a refurb.

For the record, I chose SQ.

The odds of getting a non refurb QF A388 in late September are not good.

The refurbs are supposed to be complete by the end of the year, but once the last one(s) goes in for the makeover, all operating QF A388s will be of the new configuration.

While having done 3, two were done at around the same time, so over a 10 month period they could do the remaining 9.

That worked quite well until a door was ripped off. With the 747's due to be gone soon, they would literally have nothing spare if such an issue popped up again. Though I'm sure reversing the A380 out of a hangar with the door open isn't a regular occurrence.

I've read mixed things about the refurb.. I'm trying to decide if 80K (or a similar seat) would be better value than using more points and flying PE. It's a bit strange that the new PE seats are quite a lot wider than the original, but no change to pitch.

Sorry serty, didn't see your SQ recommendation lol. I'm leaning towards NZ mostly because I'm pretty scared of the SQ22 doozy, that's a long way... And I've never been on a 350 before so I'm not sure what an ultra long haul flight would be like. On the other hand, to favor air nz, I've been on many 777s and I know I can comfortably do 13-14-15 hour flights on them.

Still mulling!

We flew NZ in PE about a year ago BNE-AKL-IAH. The food and wine selection were very good. 777 for both legs. I would have liked more recline but not an option in PE.
Haven't done PE on SQ so unable to compare
