I wonder if Dj will jump on the availability of more ATRs earlier, and possibly A330s:

Kingfisher Air Talks to SC Lowy for Investment After Plane Order Scrapped - Bloomberg

We didn’t think the situation of Kingfisher today was such that in a short time they’d be in a position to take additional planes,” ATR Chief Executive Officer Filippo Bagnato said in Paris yesterday. “There were issues with the continuity of pre-delivery payments.” '

Plane Deliveries

Airlines make pre-delivery payments between the signing of an initial purchase contract and the actual delivery of the plane. Kingfisher didn’t ask for the cancellations, he said.
The airline has already scrapped low-cost services and delayed Airbus SAS A380 deliveries as part of a turnaround plan.
ATR has been negotiating with Kingfisher for about two years over plane deliveries, according to the planemaker, a joint venture of European Aeronautic, Defence & Space Co. and Finmeccanica SpA (FNC) of Italy.
The carrier also has significant orders outstanding with Airbus, the world’s largest commercial planemaker, itself a unit of EADS. As of Dec. 31 Kingfisher had orders pending for five A380 superjumbos, five A350 long-range widebodies and 15 A330s, according to Airbus backlog numbers on its website. At list prices the aircraft would be worth about $6 billion.

Does this automatically mean Virgin is next on the list? Or is it a domino effect?

Cancelling an order worth 38 planes when you only took 157 new orders last year is a big hole, they only plan to deliver 72 this year, so I expect there will be a bit of demand for those delivery slots.

Re: Virgin to win from Kingfisher woes - Earlier ATR deliveries, more ATRs and A330s

No doubt ATR and Airbus will blind auction them the slots to interested parties to make the maximum profit. Which is their right to do - so it depends on how many other airlines VA needs to compete with to get the earlier deliveries.

Dont forget, ti would bring forward the need to recruit/train pilots/Fas/ground staff capable of operating the aircraft, and there may have been planning in place around that, so it's not as simple as VA just saying "we'll take them".

Plenty of ATR rated pilots available, especially from Kingfisher! I am not saying it would happen overnight, but it would pretty easy to accelerate the rollout of the aircraft and new routes.

I dont agree "easy" is the right word. And dont forget it's not just pilots but all the ground staff in the regional locations, engineers, FAs etc etc.

Achieveable, yes. Exciting if it happens, yes.

Easy, no.

I think it would be easy, keep in mind many of the ports already have the resources in place and just need crew and pilots, the ports indicated by DJ as not getting Business services are a good clue as to future turoprop operations, places like ROK etc. Skywest certainly have the engineering resources, and also would be keen to replace the FK50s as soon as possible as well. When its a case of replacement versus ground breaking new ports, accelerating the introduction of the ATRs would be achievable, the benefit being it frees up larger aircraft that are uneconomical to ply their trade on routes where they are economical!

Airbus will probably try sell open slots before moving deliveries to other airlines forward.
