There have been a few threads on here lately talking roughly about the food and drink options available in the Virgin Lounge.
Personally I think there is room for improvement.

What are your thoughts?

Firstly I think they have the drink options down pat. There's now a very good selection of beers including Beez Neez which is a new addition to the Melbourne lounge I noticed over the weekend. There's also a good variety of red, white and sparkling wines, and I appreciate that brands are rotated regularly for variety.
Next on to hot drinks, I love the on call Barista and I also like the variety of tea.

Now on to the food and this is where I think the lounge falls over.
Every time I enter the lounge there is the same small paltry selection of cold deli goods. The same salami, the same bland cheese, the same two dips, the same marinated olives and vegetables, the same crackers.
Then there is the one soup option.
That is it on a regular basis.

I was pleasantly surprised Wed night when Virgin staff had made a gourmet pizza and brought this around to all patrons sitting in the lounge. THIS is a nice touch but all too rare for it to happen.

What I would like to see and what would really lift the lounge are some hot food items. This is really needed especially on a cold winters night.
Even if they could dedicate one staff member to stand at the front counter preparing a hot food item fresh to order. Just like the coffee is made fresh to order. This could even be a small pizza made to order. It wouldn't be too difficult to install a small pizza oven, then all that is needed are the ingredients which could be kept in the same area as where the cold cuts are now.

What do you want to see on the Virgin Lounge menu?

Step ONE: as per their advertising! Shake, shake, shake...

Hot pasta dishes, individual pizzas, and curries with rice would be really nice.

I was pretty impressed Saturday evening in SYD lounge. Bugger all in the lounge so I wasn't overly confident about getting anything other than the same old deli selection, but they did bring out chicken party pies, middle eastern style anti-pasta, fruit salad and a cheese platter which was vey much appreciated.

That's my wish most often, some hot food (even nibbles like fish bites, mini dim sims, wontons, curry puffs etc). The soups are great but some hot breakie items would be nice (bacon, eggs and hash browns ) along with a selection of fruits.

I see the BNE lounge sports a sandwich press, but the SYD one seems to be missing in action!

+1 from me.

Personally, I don't care for 'fancy' coughtail stuff in the lounge. I just want food that goes some way to being a half-decent meal when you're passing through.

The idea of a curry with rice (dirt cheap to make) is a great one. Please VA? :)

but they did bring out chicken party pies

Did someone say Party Pies? :D

Add a new term to the dictionary folks! LMPP (Luke Mangan Party Pies)

What would I like to see?

Definatly some hot food, nothing wrong with some curries, curry puffs maybe even some mini sausage rolls and pies?

I'd defiantly like to see some more breakfast stuff, eggs, hash browns, or at least a pancake machine. I care about a good breakfast much more than some hot food at dinner time.

Didnt they used to have party pires in Sydney years ago Or am I thinking of QF im same terminal

Damn you iphone and fat fingers. Sent from my iphone and AFF app :))

curries, curry puffs

Is it just me or am I the only one seeing curry and a sealed metal tube for several hours being a dangerous combination? :D

Last week the MEL lounge had a very nice chicken Thai curry, but it was let down by an absence of rice. I ended up using the cold rice dish from the deli section and pouring the curry over it. Not ideal, but it was surprisingly decent.

Not as bad as the egg sambos, how about beans?

I shudder at the thought, I truly do :D

Curry a few years back on an Air NZ flight has completely turned me off the concept. The curry itself was surprisingly decent, however wasn't enough to compensate for the ensuing flatulence of certain pax.

Definitely need to have party pies!

And no I do not want designer party pies, just the plain good old party pies. ;)

You need designer pies, each with its own matched tomato sauce.

Decent hot breakfast? Meh!

I'm just happy with a bit of crumpet for breakfast. Something DJ has over QF.

Personally, Id take a bit of crumpet any time, not just for breakfast
