Hi all, I will be flying out of BNE on VA early November. Can anyone tell me if it is still the Plaza Premium Lounge for platinum members in business?

Thank you.

I will be flying out of BNE on VA early November.

Depends where you're flying to... After the Virgin "My Lounge" opens obviously everyone will be sent to it.

For the meantime:

Business, Platinum and Gold flying to Los Angeles will continue to use the Singapore Airlines Lounge.

Business and Platinum on all other VA flights (including to NZ) will have access to the Plaza Premium.

Gold on all other VA flights (including to NZ) will get food/drink vouchers. I don't know how much and where they're valid but if they're anything like the standard ones they hand out for delays expect a few $7 vouchers on boarding pass paper.

Thanks very much Henrus.

Did this change recently? Flew to Vanuatu in Y as a gold and Plaza Premium wasn't an issue.

Changed yesterday.

The new "my Lounge" is listed to open in around 2-3 weeks (then it will become the main VA lounge).

Until this time Golds get vouchers however they might allow access to the Plaza Premium space dependent.

Ewww. Thanks for the update.

No its not. I flew out of BNE a month ago, and it was another lounge, i cant even remember, maybe Singapore Airlines. Its really not much of an issue, the checkin desk told me which lounge to go to.

If you flew to Los Angeles then they use the Singapore Airlines lounge. That's been the case for a while now but will be fixed when the new lounge opens.

Sorry Henrus, one more question. For my upcoming flight on Saturday (3rd Nov, after changes but BEFORE new lounge opens) is it in writing on the VA website somewhere that I will have access to Singapore lounge? Don't want to get stuck without a lounge.

If you're flying to Los Angeles then yes you can still use the Singapore Lounge (provided in Business Class or Platinum/Gold).

I'm flying to Honiara next week and got an email advising that until the 'My Lounge' is open as a Gold, I'll be given a $40 voucher to spend at any food and beverage outlet.

Any suggestions for what is the best place for breakfast?

My suggestion would be the Brisbane River Grill. It's half way between the duty free store exit and the Qantas club on the left.

$40 would easily get a Smashed Avo on Toast or cooked breakfast (bacon, eggs etc) and a juice (I'd suggest the watermelon, pineapple and mint).

Windmill and Co (along the front between gates 81 and 80) is also good but they tend to do a much better lunch than breakfast.

Thanks very much!

My parents flew to DPS last week as VA Gold and were given the 40. The above recommendation seems to be the way to g as $80 between two seemed to stretch a lot.

This worked out well Henrus. Even the check in supervisor recommended it while filling out the voucher. I didn't see much action in terms of building the new lounge down at gate 77. Just some furniture removed.

I would have assumed that it's close to completion. VA announced that it would open in mid-November and I'd anticipate that would be sometime in the next week or two (unless it's delayed).

The Hobart lounge was opening in mid 2014 so I'm not holding my breath ;)

Worth noting that this isn't a VA lounge but instead a No1 lounge so hopefully that's not the case.

I'm not flying VA internationally for the next few months from Brisbane so hopefully, the new lounge will be open.

That being said for morning flights a $40 voucher would be (in my opinion) better than lounge access due to a more extensive breakfast spread. Obviously, $40 becomes quite restrictive in the evening after a couple of drinks and a main which would easily go over the $40 voucher.

Given the Plaza Premium lounge is also a Priority Pass lounge I'd assume that VA would be paying less than $30 per Platinum or Business customer they send to the Plaza Premium lounge meaning they'd be potentially spending more on Golds then Platinum or Business class passengers (assuming they have to pay the full amount for the vouchers).
