As a recent devotee of VA, the other day I flew for the very first time in domestic Y (previously always in J as VA discount J is the same-ish price as QF Flex which is what I am allowed to spend).
I was really impressed. Although the "free" food and beverages they provided were not as good as QF's freebies, the stuff available for purchase was really good - much better than QF - full bar, decent selection of food. I purchased a really cheap fare, paid $50 for Economy X seat 3A, spent about $40 on food and bev (I like the premium Gin they had) - all up cost a bit less than the QF Red-e deal that was available for the same time of day.

So far I am really happy with VA :)

Although I generally agree with your post (it is even better when you get YX for free), it would appear that you are just looking to troll our Qcult/Qsheep brethren with this sort of blasphemy.

I hope you know what you are getting yourself into....

I expect no less :)

I woke up this morning and thought to myself: "I really feel like being abused today - what can I do"?? My first thought was to wear my MAGA hat and t-shirt on the train, but then it came to me: say something not positive about the Red Rat!!

However, in all fairness to me, I didn't say anything bad about the rat; I just said that something was better (in my opinion).

I am particularly bored with the beer and wine only option in QF Y..... snore. Some of us prefer spirits. Is that really blasphemy?

Overall I do prefer the fully-inclusive meal service on QF domestic. But the Ink Gin that VA sells is indeed very good.

Went to the distillery recently and bought a bottle of that ink gin. They have a nice setup there by the Tweed and by all accounts (we were there early in the morning), are very busy on the weekends, and I could see why - it looked like a very pleasant spot to while away a Saturday afteroon.

I can see what you're saying. Sometimes paying up (for food or beverage) can be better than what's on offer for free.

Going back in my time machine to around 2007/8, I used to prefer DJ if flying outside meal times as you could buy a decent sandwich to eat instead of having a micro-snack, particularly if you didn't have time stop for lunch or stop by in the lounge.

I don't mind the food at dinner time (although it seems to be the same thing over and over again), but I am really a bit tired of the wine - and I don't drink beer.

The half a muesli bar wasn't enough to satisfy your hunger on that flight? ;)

I agree again, but the 'better food onboard' belief (in Y, on specific routes and only during certain times of the day) is one of the few remaining 'commandments' that the Qcult/Qsheep cling onto deeply to justify why they pay more (to get less overall).

Nothing is more fun, than a VA bartender on the 777 mid-Pacific. Especially when he says "Let's open another bottle of that Talisker, shall we?"
I've never done that flight - but sounds awesome! I can't even imagine where the bar is??? I get it on an A380 where it's right at the back upstairs or something, no through traffic - but I don't imagine the 777 bar is at the back behind economy???

There is a Business Class cabin at the very front of a Virgin B777, with 6 rows of suites. Then there is a full Bar area, with 4 stools and a couple of "lounge' seats with a small table. There is also the second access door, which one of two aerobridges connect to. Most pax enter through this door and walk through the smaller J cabin and on to Premium, Economy X and Economy. The front J cabin has a separate bridge to the most forward door.

The bar is manned by a bartender after dinner is served and you are welcome to eat your breakfast there too. It's a wonderful hub for socialising with strangers, who can become your best friends before the flight is over (if you have enough to drink :D).

VA cabin crew ensure the area maintains a fair sense of decorum with noise levels and RSA of course. There is also one of 3 lavatories in this area. VA used to have a walkthrough of the 777 - anyone know if it still exists?

Good post I pig out in the lounge so much I always knock back in flight food especially for short flights.

I must try the Ink Gin next time given all the positive comments here. Thanks everyone and happy end of hump day!

Nah. Never. Take what's on offer for free any day.
