Virgin codeshare on Etihad - seat selection

Hey guys
trying to select seats for my rewards flights which were booked on virgin website.
The Virgin website won't let me select seats on the segments involving etihad planes.

The virgin booking confirmation letter includes a six-digit 'airline reservation code' (EY) which allows me to see my booking on the etihad website buut when I click select seats i get the error "For flights purchased from travel agents and third party websites, please contact them for further assistance"

Do I have to call virgin? Is there no way of selecting my etihad seats online?

Call Etihad and they will let you select your seats

I did this last month with my reward seats. I phoned VA, got the Etihad PRN and then phoned Etihad and selected my seats on the phone. Have the seat map open in front of you for your flight so you know what seat they are talking about.

As others have mentioned get the Etihad PNR and then ring Etihad. My daughter did this just last night for her upcoming flight.

Just an update on this one, flew SYD - ABU - LHR and return on EY but ticketed by VA. Despite trying the app and calling through to EY call centre, was still unable to select seats until 24 hours prior to departure.

On a separate note the EY First Class Lounge & Spa in ABU was fantastic! (Able to enter as VA Plat)

Interesting. I forgot to reply to this thread but back in 2017 I was eventually able to select seats over the phone by calling Etihad and giving them the Etihad PNR.
It seems like this no longer works? Bummer.

Yeah, it's not possible now... I tried last time, on a AF ticket and they were trying as well but unable to select my seats... It's not even working for their own ticket number sometimes as they told me...
It would be great if they could improve their IT !

I believe it's no longer possible as you have to pay for advance seat selection on Etihad.

Yes, so now you have to pay but it only works if it's an EY ticket. I don't know if that would work with Alitalia or Jetairways but pretty sure it's the same at VA.

Some of my experiences :
- AF ticket (057...) MEL-CDG and CDG-BNE. Attached my EY gold FF. I was unable to choose a seat online, or even via the EY call center. They couldn't select a seat for me, even if I was willing to pay.
Had to wait until check-in and choose what's left.
The EY app chose a seat for you but it's always middle seat in the center. Which I don't like.
The Frequent Flyer tier don't do anything for that with Etihad.
On the way back, they chose for me a Economy space seat at the front of the A380 on the first leg : really good ! On the second leg, full flight but the cabin manager greets me and found me 2 seats with a window. Perfect, at the end.

-EY ticket (607...) CDG-BNE. Gold FF attached. You can choose a seat and pay for it. It works.

-VA ticket, unable to choose a seat with the VA PNR. Have to enter it in the app, and 3 or 4 PNR will appear and one of them should work. It was, however on the laptop website that I have been able to choose my seat. Was before we had to pay to seat so I don't know for now.
