Thanks, but I've never booked through Etihad directly, so not sure of the process. She has now booked through a 3rd party travel agent - much to my dismay. I'll haven't seen the itinerary so not even sure what airline they put her on, or what flight sectors/stopovers she will have.
Despite my begging her to consider Virgin, the agent told her they can get the fares much cheaper elsewhere. (I wasn't worried about the small fare differential - it was the points and SC I wanted towards an upcoming family holiday.) But she figured she saved around $300 (woopdy do). And poor old Mum doesn't know **** apparently.

All codes result in the same price, approx ~4% cheaper than google flights not 10% as one would expect.

What am I doing wrong?

Nothing ... it's a discount off the base fare, not the +++ .

On a BNE-LAX return, the +++ can be nearly $200.

A lot of bottom end LAX and HKG fares are usually on ‘Sale’ even though not indicated, hence no markdown.

They must block promo codes on certain fares, I was eyeing a $699 MEL-HKG return fare not marked as sale. It was $729 with the code working before the price drop, in which dropped $30 to align with QF/CX price movement and it didn’t work.

Great pick up Happy Dude - the code works on all the dummy bookings I have tried but the 45 day in advance clause has knocked out a couple of trips - more than made up for by the discount for my travels into next year.

Sometimes these codes are not applicable to GetAway fares. If that’s what you were trying to book it may be one reason for the code not working.
Try HNV39 as it is now valid thru to 31 Dec.

HNV39 works for this booking on these dates and will give you a $112 discount each way if booking a Freedom fare on the direct flight.

I've never had a problem upgrading from fares bought using promo codes - I think the upgrade is linked to the fare bucket rather than what (or how) you actually paid for the fare.

It may be that the 20 day advance purchase requirement when using the code could affect this but I would be putting my points upgrade request through ASAP rather than waiting that late.

Thanks for the code. That's giving me 13.7% off Elevate fares as I calculate it - a bit more than the standard 10% most codes give.
