My step-son flew Sydney - Denpasar on virgin australia. Checked his luggage on at Sydney along with his 4 travel companions. Arrived Denpasar and whilst his mates had their luggage, he did not. He reported the missing luggage to Virgin Australia staff, filled in the required VA form apart from that VA has been useless with telephone inquiries made as a follow up and now there is a 19yo on his first trip o/s with his mates and VA, whilst happy to take their money for the flights apparently could not care less about the missing luggage. United breaks guitars and Virgin loses luggage - maybe his sisters might have a song on you tube sometime soon - Good One Virgin !!

Is it possible for you to elaborate how Virgin have been useless in this regard? For example, they can't tell you where it is, they haven't given you a tracking number (WorldTracer), they have no estimate as to what they are tracing, they're not telling you something etc. etc.

Locating lost luggage can take a while, but assuming the loss was not off the beaten path, it should be traceable. Hence your stepson should have a WorldTracer ID (I'm assuming that Virgin also uses WorldTracer - I could be wrong here).

Finally, aside from Australia, Virgin probably don't have their own baggage services in Denpasar; they are probably a contracted service. You'd be lucky if the contractors know hell squat what they are doing, so extra patience required. (Almost every airline in the world who operates services to a country not their own uses contract services (ground services) the same way.)

But hey - put up that Youtube video anyway. If it goes viral, you might get some satisfaction and then some.

Virgin is hardly alone in this regard, all airlines lose luggage.
It is how they deal with it that matters. You do need to elaborate as to how VA have been useless.
It can be a frustrating start to the holiday, but I am sure VA will get the bags back as soon as they are able to.

They lost a bag of mine, worked out well as it was delivered to my home and saved me the excess baggage for the final leg

Then his travel insurance should take care of him. Plus clothing a 19 yo in Bali shouldn't be that expensive.

Wouldn't it be 1 for four days?

Day 1 - Forwards
Day 2 - Backwards
Day 3 - Inside out Forwards
Day 4 - Inside out Backwards

;)

My, aren't you a grub! :p

Don't tell me you do the same thing with your underwear, too.

Don't you know? It's a badge of honour! Even better with hair braids! ;)

Xeeppo Welcome to the forum
Please report back if/when he gets his luggage. Will be upsetting. Hope he has nothing valuable in it

First thing for your step-son to learn is that for a holiday in Bali you only need hand luggage & a credit card or bundle of cash

Virgin came through - his luggage did not make it on the plane but now he has been re-united with it and does not have to wear his mate's jocks !!

Excellent! Looks like it was just a case of left behind - better than lost in space or the like.
