Virgin Australia changes to carry on baggage allowance effective 2 Feb 2026

Not quite new

Personally, I check my wheelie bag, as I have osteoarthritis in my right shoulder and really can't lift a suitcase that high. And I don't expect others to help me lift it.

I just take a tote bag on as my carry on. And it goes under the seat. And then I sit and just watch everyone else try to find space..... It's amazing how much stuff goes up top.
I also have a problem with the weight.
How do you get it off the carousel?

I think the more baffling thing is the two items adding to 14 kg, no single bag under 8 kg. I've had recent experiences travelling with Asian carriers where they were extremely strict limits on carry-on (even in J). I was travelling with a partner with a single hard case around 10 kg. I'd mention that we were together and they would say 7 kg, no exceptions, I would then have to take out a 400 g duffel I had stashed in my carry on and say ok I'll transfer to this, only to stuff it all back into the single carry on as soon as I left the check-in gate.

I could see myself doing the same come Feb if they get strict on the 8 kg limit. I get the weight concerns with people getting FAs to lift a 15 kg bag into the overheads, but something like the 10 kg limit Qantas has would make more sense. Are they really going to force us to take up MORE room in the overheads?
