Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Flew LST-MEL on Monday, no hot option offered but a reasonably tasty pumpkin and prosciutto salad was available. Wouldn’t typically go for a salad but given the short flight length I was happy with this, only downside was a warm beer.

Is that a Green Beacon beer? After this week you’d better check it doesn’t come with a side of COVID-19...

(Green Beacon Brewery is a contact tracing site in BNE)

Breakfast and I opted for something light. Avocado and feta on sourdough. Slightly disappointing as avo had no taste (still slightly green) but feta lifted it. Needed the salt & pepper sachets (no shakers). The pastry was the best part of the meal

Surprised when I heard it was going to be lunch menu given 11.15am departure, but wasn’t complaining. Chose the turkey, Brie and fig jam sourdough melt. The subtle flavor of the turkey was there but the fig jam zing was missing, the (flavour and size of the) piece of Brie was the saving grace in this dish. You’ll need the cutlery to eat it.

The side dish of cheese and crackers was tasty.

QF WP rating: 7.5/10

Lunch is 10am-4pm.

THU 1/4 ADL-MEL VA238 1840
Offerings were the Lamb and Rosemary pie or the Quinoa Salad. I had the pie and Mrs Jase had the salad. Both really enjoyed the meals and helped that the staff were amazing. Full J seating but staff were on hand to constantly top up drinks and have a chat. PDB of bubbles and short flight but had a couple of spirits. Enjoyable all round

Options were the Quinoa salad and the Prosciutto Salad. Mrs Jase enjoyed the Quinoa salad so much that she went for another whilst I went the Prosciutto as I won’t eat a dish without meat. Both were excellent again and great staff for this leg also. Washed down with a few more spirits and given the remainder of the mini spirit bottles to take home. Great flight all round again until we got to HBA and found 1 bag was accidentally offloaded in MEL 😢

3 J flights with VA = 3 Halloumi cheese salads all served with a side of Tasty cheese. Despite sitting in 1A not enough pies or alternatives loaded on flight back for the J cabin from CNS.

I agree, it’s a great outcome for the Australian cheese industry in having a lot of cheese options available.

Perhaps I’m being unfair, but they may need to improve the ratio of meals loaded and available? Clearly an extra couple of pies or alternate meals loaded is a bridge too far cost wise these days! It really annoys me to not have a choice in J simply because of penny pinching.

An alternative would have left with me with a more favourable impression; especially as the VA lounge has been shuttered for good. The wines I had on these flights, sparkling white (which I think is Grant Burge) and the Kiwi Pinot Noir were both lovely though.

Aligns exactly with my experience and I agree it's very poor. Can I ask what status you are, and whether you used fly ahead or upgraded at the airport?

VA gold. They were all ’paid for‘ flights, booked a whilst back.

One flight was changed (to avoid travelling via BNE) but dont think that made any difference as it was done at least 24 hrs in advance of flying.

One thing was a bit weird; I got chocolate mousse desert on one flight, nothing on the other 2.

Hopefully these are teething problems, that will be fixed, as I have a lot of CNS coming up.

Did REX MEL OOL on Sunday morning 4 April, back on a 1555 departure same day on VA. Both sectors in J.
Rex breakfast was tasty, a quiche with sautéed mushrooms, banana bread warmed in the oven in it’s packet, and a side of fresh fruit salad. All presented on the one cardboard like tray. Route back with VA went with the Turkey melt. Tasty enough but a bit bloating for me, forget what the other option was but I remember it was not something I was interested in at the time. Staff on both REX and VA all very good. Overall the REX meal was the tastier of the two, and around half an hour after clearing they offered me some nuts which I took. On VA, I guess I could have had a packet of crisps or something from the Y menu if I wanted it..

Was fortunate to be able to use a platinum upgrade certificate today flying PER-MEL. Choices were the lentil salad with Halloumi or Chicken souvlaki with mixed vegetables. Thankfully a couple didn't eat so I got the last chicken dish.

It was absolutely delicious! As was the little side plate of feta and artichoke, and the carrot cake dessert was yum. Really good effort.

Unfortunately I could not have alcohol this time, but did overhear there was also a choice of three different white and red wines, each.
