Looks to be a very good sauce to meat ratio. Nothing worse than a dry curry dish

For some reason, for one of the shortest J flights around, I've always found the food and service exemplary on this route.

Lunch service NTL- BNE. Braised beef short rib with spinach and ricotta gnocchi. Nice flavour, but the beef was a bit dry. Sauce was nice with mushrooms pine nuts and Parmesan. Gnocchi was a bit tough. I usually choose the salad, but today’s salad was Waldorf which didn’t appeal to me.

Yoghurt and fresh fruit with pecans and coconut. Caramelised onion quiche. The other option was a chicken sandwich. Both were very enjoyable. Flight departure time was 9.45 am.

Breakfast CBR-MEL.



Hot dish of potatoes, ground sausage, kale, feta and various veg. Delicious and a nice change from eggs.

Other choice was yogurt.

Quiche on an 11am MEL-SYD flight in ‘The Business’. Flight was delayed so would have been nice to have lunch, but the quiche was pretty good.



Bacon, egg and spinach. Other option was a tomato and haloumi salad.

It appears every now and then. Usually around 0630-0730.

This phenomenon happens mostly on Tuesdays. I must admit, I have juggled flights to ensure we were on this baby on a couple of occasions. The food service on such a short flight is incredible!

Perth to Melbourne on VA676 last Friday morning departing at 5.20am I got the express breakfast which worked oute well since it all came out all at once so I could quickly enjoy a nice breakfast and sleep the rest of the flight in the A330 lie flat seat.

Mine was on a Sunday. I was pleasantly surprised. May have been footy related (though not obvious to me judging by pax onboard). J was close to full.

Good menu. Tough choice but Id pick the duck and the gnocchi

Duck starter was OK but nothing special. Generous pieces of duck, but overall the dish lacked a bit of flavour. The duck was fine, but the pickled radish was tasteless. I’m not normally a fan of hummus and it was quite overpowering. In a weird way that was probably good as at least it gave the dish a strong flavour.

And the cheese



Quite possibly the best J cheese plate I’ve ever had. The Heidi gruyere in particular was absolutely outstanding . The blue was also great if a little mild.

I had the Hardy Shiraz which was very nice.

Service on this flight was just amazing. About an hour out the FA came around with the pantry basket. Top notch all round.
