Has anyone signed up for Hilton Honors and selected Virgin Australia for the fixed earning option when "double dipping"? They are listed as a partner airline for earning but not on the double dipping page. Has anyone done it and can they confirm that it works before i sign up for it?

Also, does anyone have general thoughts on whether double dipping is good value v. Hilton bonus points.

There's three options with "My Way" "Double Dip".
HHonors Points and HHonors Points:
10 HHonors Base points + 5 bonus points per eligible U.S. dollar spent
HHonors Points and Variable Miles:10 HHonors Base points + 1 airline mile per eligible U.S. dollar spent*
HHonors Points and Fixed Miles:
10 HHonors Base points per eligible U.S. dollar spent + 500 miles per stay (100 miles per stay at Hampton Inn[SUP]®[/SUP], Hampton Inn & Suites[SUP]®[/SUP] and Homewood Suites[SUP]®[/SUP])

With DJ, only "HHonors Points and Fixed Mile" is relevant and you'd earn 1000 Velocity Rewards points per stay.

(Virgin Australia is not in the list of Variable Miles Airline Partners for "HHonors Points and Variable Miles".)

So you need to consider the value of a HHonors point against that of a Velocity Point and what is worth more to you:

  1. 1000 Velocity per stay or
  2. 5 HHonors points per USD spend.

In my case, generally for single night stays or folios totaling up to about USD500¹ I find the former to be the go. For longer stays with high cost folios (> USD500¹) the latter may be better value.

¹The USD500 figure is a ball park and is subjective. It can vary depending upon an individual's needs/wants/requirements.

Thanks Serfty, i missed the page about the 1,000 points per stay. That seems pretty good value for me as i mostly do short stays - 1 and 2 night trips. I'm also tempted to turn the trip i won to the states (thanks Virgin Australia) into a bit of a Hilton mattress run to see if i can rack up a fair chunk of the 28 stays required to requalify for platinum. I assume if i stay in 5 different hotels in NYC over 5 nights there's no problem with it counting as 5 stays?

As long as the bookings are 'eligible'¹, then no problem at all.

(TIP: Make sure on check out you get a printed final folio showing all rates, charges and payments. About 5% of the time a stay does not credit and a scan of that printed folio makes chasing the stay credit much simpler.)

So far as I can tell the 1000 points per stay is entirely independent of your HHonours earning style - indeed, the 1000 points per stay offering on the Velocity site doesn't specify HHonours membership as a pre-requisite so it appears to be an independent benefit. I have mine set to the double-points option yet still have them swipe my Velocity card at check-in and claim the 1000 points per stay.

I assume you are indicating that Velocity give you points independently of HHonors.

If you are getting both than Velocity are not checking these things out properly.

I can assure you that HHonors will not give you both.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I agree with serfty here.

I believe that you are off the mark with this Mh4k. (Though I would like to think you are right)
