I have around 120K velocity points and I intent to use them to book reward tickets to Paris in Jul 2020. On checking the virgin australia reward tickets availability I don't think there are any left as I seem to be too late in the race.

Interestingly , I am able to find rewards tickets on SQ flights ( PE and Business ). However I am just worried will be using too many points because of the conversion ratio. Also have around 54K amex points that I could pitch in to increase either my velocity/kris flyer balance.

I am based out of Melbourne and plan to travel with wife/kid(3.5 yrs old). Currently VA silver ( hitting gold in Jan 2020 ) and Krisflyer Silver.

Appreciate your valuable suggestions.

I’m not really sure what your question is....

Have you called velocity to check availability, or are you relying on the accuracy of the website?

Definitely try the phone first to book direct with Velocity on SQ. As it will be cheaper than transferring points between the programmes.

Make sure you also search sector by sector, i.e. MEL-SIN and SIN-CDG rather than just MEL-CDG.

I’m not really sure what your question is....

Is it better to search for award tickets on VA or transfer the points to Kris Flyer and book SQ reward tickets.

Not yet , still relying on website information as I am finalising consolidation of all my points in a single place. Once I get clarity on where to accumulate my points.

You need to ring velocity and ask them to check for you. I have found in the past if there is availability on KrisFlyer there is seats available on velocity even tho the website doesn’t show

Well the answer to your question on consolidation is based on availability...search the individual sectors online, and/or give them a call. It will be cheaper if you can keep the points in velocity I think.

Well, if the same tickets are available for fewer points... ummmm... yup, I’d take the fewer point option!

I wouldn’t consolidate your points until you know where you want to spend them. Give them a call.

Are the carrier charges the same when an SQ ticket is redeemed via Velocity rather than Krisflyer?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Basically yes.
We booked reward tickets recently and the charges for the outbound leg on QF were ~$600, inbound on SQ (booked via velocity) ~$150 (2 pax) Had I booked through SQ direct, the charges were similar (can't remember exactly, the points premium made it worthwhile)
