Velocity Points Booster

Somewhat hidden program, but I found it and used it today. Planning a Business Rewards return for two to UK, flying EY MEL-AUH-MAN over Christmas NY. Had the points to do the outbound, no problem, but was short for the return journey by ~50k points.
The return flight opened up today, and I was able to call Customer Services and buy the 49k points I needed (you need 80% already in your account for the intended purchase). Transfer to my VFF account took ~ half hour.
I did have to call back to VFF International section to get them to force-synch my VFF actual with the Search and Book databases, and that was then all good. Saved $$$!

I recently booked a reward J seat from BNE-MEL-AUH-DME & return & was 40K points short. They quoted me $900 for 40K points but I ended up getting them from another family member.

I noticed it on the home page a couple of days ago-surprisingly little fuss over a new addition to the program .....or has it been around for ages and I missed it

The MEL-AUH_MAN return business rewards flight is 125k points + taxes, and we're going 20Dec-5Jan, so it's ultra-peak period. It cost me $1155 for the 49k points I needed to complete the booking - meanwhile I've now got to book my son on the same flights as a pay-only economy, and that's worth $2800!! So I think in this particular case the points booster was money well spent!

$0.023/point seems pretty reasonable to me! You wouldn't want to buy more than 20% anyway, but really good for the top-up that it is.

I think it's fairly new, because when I spoke to CS to enquire as to the mechanics of the process, he had to go check the script... Certainly it didn't ping on my radar when it was introduced. Cost-per-point-wise it may not be the most economical, but when it's an option for flying to the UK flat v upright, it's very attractive!!

When the T&C's ask you to nominate your intended award, can the award be the amount needed to book flights after transferring to SQ? & can they sit for a bit once purchased or have to be redeemed pretty quickly?. My 5 years from now dream rdmpt is of MEL-NRT/HND rt in SQ R&F is 256.5k pts after the 1.35 conversion rate.

However, with well under 20k points in my account, buying SPG & Velocity points is seeming appealing, along with a few paid flights with VA & SQ.
