Re: Lumo to no longer be Velocity partner

Does any one know if it costs to switch, meter reading fees and disconnection/ reconnection charges. The rates seem a little cheaper than what I am currently paying so if if was free I would switch for sure

Re: Lumo to no longer be Velocity partner

I was put onto this website as a comparison. FWIW I am with Lumo (after joining due to the Velocity deal).

https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/offer-search

When i plugged our usage data into the search, Lumo was within $20pa of the "best" deal. So i stayed with Lumo as I could also earn FF points.

Will have to consider switching to cheapest if FF points earn falls off.

They'll fall off eventually, but they did say they would be honouring existing contracts, so it is possible that it might be two years before that happens.

Re: Lumo to no longer be Velocity partner

I contacted Lumo and was told that existing customers will continue to receive FF points.

If this changes, at least we have another option for now.

I have an ongoing contract which I could switch from easily (2 years was up some time ago). I am still getting the 6 x points.

I guess if I make a change then that'd be it.

Note that most households who connect with a Gas & Electricity contract will get 10K upfront (5K+5K) and 1K every year anniversary.

So for 11K PA to be worthwhile to switch, I'd need to have annual bills of less than $1830, or under $153 per month average.

Re: Lumo to no longer be Velocity partner

Energy Australia now has a 10k signup bonus for electricity and 10k for gas with 2k retention pts for each at the end of each year. I had a look tho and their daily connection fee is 50c more/day than Lumo!!! For high users their electricity supply fee/kWh is a smudge lower which may offset things for very high users! For me though it would be about $15/mths more expensive with EA. The 6pts per dollar at Lumo would also roughly equal 10k in a year for me so it isn't really worthwhile.

Gas is not available in Qld with them so can't comment

For those who may not be aware, Velocity have partnered with Energy Australia as of today.

This morning I rang Energy Australia to switch to them after ongoing dramas with AGL and enquired about their Velocity partnership. Long story short I signed up on a 12 month fixed discount plan (with no break charges) and was given 10,000 velocity points for each service I bought over (so I pocketed 20k points for gas and electricity). The energy discount was also greater than I was receiving with AGL. I was also advised I would receive a bonus 2k velocity points per service on each annual anniversary assuming I stay on the Velocity Plan.

The points will be credited within 10 days of the first quarterly energy bill. After this has occurred I will be looking at other plan options to increase the energy discount as I will have already pocketed the initial 20k points and it's likely not worth staying on that plan for an additional 4K points a year.

Anyway, worth looking at if your considering the switch in energy providers - an easy 20k points with very little to lose.

I was receiving 14% off gas and electricity with AGL for paying on time. The Energy Australia offer was 18% on electricity and 15% on gas. So better than what I was on plus the bonus of 20k Velocity Points. I understand the discount percentage is not as high was some going around but as a low energy user the difference was negligible. Ill pocket the points and ring them up after the first quarter and switch to a non Velocity plan with a higher discount.

Just like the love between the exes, ie, Velocity and Lumo.
For some its easy thing to change, but for me its too complicated.
Anyway, great to see that there is something back for some, and that in some regards, VA is a bit more beneficial than QF in regards to utilities spending.
I made quite a good innings with the Velocity and Lumo tie in.

Some electricity companies say they will charge you a deposit, some say they will charge a connection and disconnection fee, I am with AGL and Lumo (hard to explain), when I joined AGL, they did say there was a connection charge, and AGL long ago, did ask for a deposit, but of late, AGL didn't charge.
It would be in their T&Cs but sometimes, they might forgo the upfront charges, might being the operative word.
When I joined Lumo, there was no disconnection fee from the previous company, and no connection fee with Lumo. AGL lately also have not charged deposit/disconnection/reconnection fee.
They probably could.

Just signed up today. While the % discounts were slightly less than my current AGL plans the KW and daily rates are also less than the AGL ones I am on. My educated estimated guess is that my total cost will be very similar although these energy companies make it quite difficult to work out exactly how one plan compares with another.

Ill take the 20K Velocity points and then see what's on offer once they hit my account. Thanks Returnofthemach for the heads up.

Sadly we are already with Energy Australia so no 20k bonus points but the 2k per year is better than nothing

Is there a minimum contract term that you signed up for?

It is a 12 month contract with no cancellation or change fee, so effectively no from your end. Once pts are credited you are free to change.

Am an existing energyaustralia customer. Bit disappointing that the only - small - points for existing customers is a year down the track.
