I found out today that it will no longer be possible to redeem Velocity points for Virgin America flights from 1 October this year.

The same applies for Virgin America Elevate redemptions on Virgin Australia (and other partner airline) flights - this will no longer be possible from the same date.

The writing was on the wall once AS took over VX. However, as AS partners with a 'diverse' group of airlines, I would not be surprised if AS and VA come to some agreement in the future (unless the AS/QF partnership excludes this from happening).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Given the rancour between AS and DL that started with the battle for Seattle (and the value of DL to VA) I would imagine that would be unlikely

Hopefully something will appear for the new AS/VA alliance down the track.

At least my July flights will still earn status credits!

Such a shame that AS are absorbing the VX brand; VX has always been enjoyable for me, and I have a soft spot for their branding/marketing and inflight experience. I flew VX a couple of times of the past few weeks and there are already strong traces of AS in VX spaces (check-in kiosks, gate signage etc). With the above news, it appears these flights will have been my last with them!

DL now owns my US domestic flight spend, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (just a little less fun).
