    This is indeed exciting!

We'll have to wait for them to update the page to see the full terms & conditions of the offer. But it does indeed look like this will run from 1-12 February. I doubt it's a coincidence that their current sale ends on 31 January. ;)

Now I know another good reason to book freedom fares and not elevate!

Hmm, not bad at all. Such a shame I can't get any leave booked in for the rest of the year :(

Might do a transcon dash at Easter on a freedom....

Does VA also suffer from the same issue QF does - that is, better wait half-a-day before registering for such promos?

So is this specifically targeted ? or you can't actually activate it until it goes live (in Feb) ?

The promo is not live yet but doesn't appear targeted. You'll need to wait until 1 February.

Thanks Matt. Just booked 4x US trips for wife & family. (yesterday). Sigh... not having a great run at the moment as the (targeted) discount code wouldn't work either (so no 10% discount). Wondering if it makes any kind of sense to cancel/rebook as all fares were booked in Elevate (which allows for changes with no $$ 45 days out?) - travel was all going to be in April.

Possibly it could be worth cancelling and rebooking, but best to wait and see the full details of the offer before making any decisions. You'd need to work out whether the cancellation costs outweigh the benefit of any extra status credits earned.

By the way, the promo codes aren't targeted... they probably just didn't work for your itinerary. If you were going somewhere other than LAX (i.e. the booking included a flight/s on a partner airline) then this would explain it.

Oh i realise that the code should just work for anyone - I meant targeted as in - aimed at a particular institution I'm working at and the blurb/flyer that was forwarded simply specified 'for leisure travel' with no specific destination (or exclusion).

And yes, you're right - the promo seemed to work for SYD-LAX (return) but not for SYD-LAX-DFW.

It's all VA flight numbers (but Delta metal).

It wasn't a deal breaker but ~10% on $8K worth of flights would be around $500ish? which would have been nice to have e.g. almost covers car rental for the trip.

Aha.. that's good to know. It wasn't clear that would happen from the flyer.. ah well, now I know for next time.

I'll give the call centre a bell on Friday to see what the options are for rebooking (if that makes sense..).

It would be really nice to take advantage of this as it would basically allow wife to requalify for Gold with one trip (based on the family pooling).

Just to be clear, the only way you'll be able to earn double status credits for this trip is to completely cancel and book a brand new ticket. If you simply change or re-book the existing ticket (i.e. the PNR stays the same) it won't earn DSCs.

P.S. There's some more info on the promo codes here if you're interested - Current Virgin Australia Discount Codes
