Hi

I can't find this info anywhere but am hoping someone has done this before.

Need to use to the vacuum-applied clothes compactor at NRT before JL check-in (F).

Wonder where I may borrow a vacuum cleaner for about 5-10 sec to compact my bulky winter clothing.

Not a deal breaker but it would be nice to compact them before closing the suitcase.

Appreciate any pointer

TIA

Frankly I have no idea?

OK, perhaps find a cleaner and ask.

Print this out?

I can only hope what you wrote won't earn me some startled look.

Just kidding SERFTY

Very impressive - Google Translation or the real deal ?

It basically will.

The first line is an approximation of "I can borrow a vacuum cleaner", not a question. The second line talks about compressing clothes.

The deeper cultural interpretation is "Some clown opted to put something through Google Translate rather than trust the people hired to give out information in English to do their jobs."

Then they might send you upstairs to buy the limited-edition Narita "STORAGE BAG (圧縮袋)" that doesn't require a vacuum cleaner, because needing a vacuum cleaner in the middle of an airport is a tad inconvenient.

In reality it would be better to show printed English to staff working the information desk.

Many English speaking Japanese have considerable trouble understanding 'Strine (or at least mine).

Not that impressive - it was indeed a translation.

BacchusMarsh raises a good point - however English text can often work ok.

I do hope it went/goes well.

Suggest this may be easier done at your hotel/last port of call? I guess it depends on how much time you'll spend outside between leaving your accommodation and your conveyance to NRT

I may have an answer in 2 weeks.

We would be flying on to humid SGN while son is heading back to SYD so it makes sense to compact down the Japan-winter gear for him to take home.

Don't want to wear T-shirt from Shinjuku to NRT either !

(1st in-flight AFF post from me)

Merry XMas to all from somewhere over the North Pacific [where freedom of overflights remains]

In the end, I decided to compact them at the hotel wearing thermal under-clothing en route to the airport - very comfortable option.

Changed on plane with ease to suit 28-degrees SGN

Didn't ask at the airport- should have but forgot in the rush !

there are actually spacebags where you roll them up to get the air out instead of the usual vacuum. Guess this doesn't help you now but i've been using these for a while especially for ski trips.

Many brands but don't buy from the 2 dollar shops as those qualities seem to be the worse as the seals break after 3-5 uses.

Thanks Foggy

My son used those but I find the vacuum types give me more size reduction.

Yes, a worthy alternative.
