Hi all,

I am sure many of you had some experience on board both VA and EY metals.

I am about to do bookings for our trip to NZ this coming December, and the cheaper option is always has combination of either going on EY metal and back on VA metal, or vice versa.

As I have never flew VA before, I am not sure if I want to risk it. I love EY flatbed.

There is always an option to opt for all EY flights, but that included price different for about SAR 1,000 (which approx will translate to about AUD260) per person per flight. My question is it worth it?

Please help me decide, TIA

If you love EY then stick with EY. Remember too that the portion between Australia and NZ will be on Virgin NOT VA, so there will be no further flat bed experience across the tasman.

Hope that helps

Small question .. do you mean EY or EK? EY don't fly their own metal to NZ.

Thanks, and sorry I was not being clear, my question is more like: is VA using the similar plane as EY, i.e same flatbed.

I honestly could not careless who I am flying with, but the flatbed is the one that I worried about. I do not like flying EK because of it.

I don't like EK :( and I know EY does not fly to NZ. In the past I used EY to Sydney and take QF to NZ, I will do the same this trip.

I've not flown either on this leg before, but my understanding is that VA flies a 777 to EY's A340 but both of their J products are flat, horizontal beds. VA's implementation is a little 'funkier' than EY's (which may or may not be a good thing for you), and also has the bar and the famous 'row 5', which can be curtained off for privacy. On the other hand, it is more like a seat than a 'suite' as Etihad's Pearl Business class seats appear to be.

V australia

Out of interest, what is it that turns you off EK?

Ive flown EY J and VA Y+.

Both are excellent in my opinion, the product is very similar, although I have to say the menu onboard EY in J is the best I've ever experienced, great anytime menu.

I have flown EY and VA both in J and agree with Travel Guru that the EY menu is one of the best I've come across.

djfuzz: Thank you for the link to VAustralia. Having look at their J International and Y+ International, I am not sure if I like what I see :( I think I will not risk it, and stick to EY flights :(

To answer your question of what turns me off EK, my simple answer is that they are too arrogant, they rubbed me off a wrong way once, and I stopped flying with EK since. I have not flewn EK since 2008, I'd rather pay extras to get others airlines thank you.

TG: am I reading it right, i.e VA will put me in their Y+ rather than J? No wonder there is a difference in their prices :(

No, they were separate trips, just expressing my experience flying both airlines.

That's definitely not the first time I've heard that, I've had clients and fellow travellers tell me the same.

TG, thank you, I think the decision has been made and we will take EYs rather than the combination EY and VA flights.

About the EK, I too has many friends that gone off EK compeletly, beside as we reside in Saudi, EK is known to have the worse connections time.

oops sorry for misquote :(

oh I'd like to add a bit more comment:

I personally seeing EY is about to do the same mistake EK did... I will not surprise if I will have to ditch EY in a near future. (I bold the word personal because it is my personal opinion). Having flew EY so much, I had never sent any complaint email till this year, and this year alone, I had sent them twice, and about to send another one which then I cancel it as I could not be bothered anymore.

Good choice, EY is much better.

VA 777's suffered from the fact they were built under mgt who were still LCC centric so as a result the cabin feels dated already and the design is cheap. Functionally it's ok but would be towards the bottom of my list that's for sure!
