I'm a VA Platinum and I've got flights on SQ & MI coming up soon. I was curious to know if SQ/MI actually "see" your status.

I have the option of putting into my reservation my *A Premier Gold Membership # which would seem to give me the same benefits as that of a VA Platinum member but then I realize that MI is not a *A member and that I'm probably going to be better off quoting my VA Platinum FF # for the entire booking.

What's been the experience of others?

My first question would be Where do you want the status credits and points to credit too...?

Having flown SQ & MI as a VA WP / gold over the years your boarding pass has you status printed on it.. something along the lines of “partner gold” will appear..

I wouldn’t expect as much as a welcome back from any FA’s and some at MI ports you’ll need to be forceful at checkin to have priority baggage tags applied... recent experience flying back from BPN proved the same..

Had no issues with priority tags out of HKT with MI,and didnt have to ask for express pass's on SQ out of BNE.
And priority board at all ports wasnt an issue.

Yeah I have had the same experience flying out of HKT too... seamless really.. my comment really relates to MI routes wher they fly only 2 to 3 times a week..

A lot of my travel this year has been to Indonesia and the contracted check in agents don’t seem to understand benefits apply to status holders of other airlines.

On MI you're *A status will do nothing nor will it appear on your boarding pass.

As a Velocity Platinum, your boarding pass will display "PTNR Partner Priority" on the SQ and MI boarding passes (which often confuses agents). If you were VA Gold or *A Gold then you'd get "Partner Gold" which seems to create a lot less confusion.

*A status also makes the computer display your "Lounge Invitation" printed on the boarding pass for the SQ flights. They will never make a call/have signs for Virgin Australia Gold or Platinum so listen/look out for Krisflyer Gold as they'll accept VA Gold/Platinum at this time.

Generally, they're quite good at recognising status and my experience has been...
Checkin - On MI use the Business Class line and on SQ use the Star Gold lane (which may also be the Business class line). No questions asked across Australia, Asia, and Europe.

Baggage - The extra 20kg automatically appears in the system no questions asked.

Security - On SQ, from Australia, they seem to give an express pass but oddly I don't get one when leaving Singapore (they hand out express passes at the gate whilst boarding to those "eligible"). Other places I've been given nothing but I'm not sure if anything extra was even offered.

Baggage - This has mainly been automatic but did cause some confusion in Zurich flying Premium Economy as she wasn't sure if to attach a Business Class tag or a PE one.

Boarding - In Australia (and some other ports in Asia/Europe) if they seem to make a boarding call for Business/PPS/Krisflyer Gold and *A Gold all at once and then use the Priority Lane. In Singapore, it depends but it's either a free for all if they use a gate where the boarding pass is scanned when entering the gate area otherwise it's quite well enforced that *A Gold, SQ Gold, VA Gold/Plat board with Group 3 after Business/PPS has boarded.

Lounge Access - In Singapore and Australia they seem to have a good idea (and probably meet VA Gold/Platinum cardholders daily) but other places seem to question it a bit more but it always turns green after they can the card. As I said earlier all eligable lounge guests (*A Gold/Business etc) get a line like "You are invited to the silver kris lounge" printed on the boarding pass but VA Gold/Platinum don't get this hence there is sometimes a bit of confusion.

For another data point, I oddly enough had 'Partner Priority' on my boarding pass last time even though I was only Velocity Gold, which was odd even to the lounge staff in Sydney. Didn't cause any problems but was curious, as up until then it was always Priority when I was Platinum and Gold when I was Gold.

I've noticed they seem to have stopped giving out the passes, and the little priority logo is on your boarding pass instead.

Hmm I just got a printed express pass today in Brisbane.

At the moment the status from Virgin isn't showing on the board pass so make sure you carry your card for benefits.

Ah sorry, didn't realise it was Brisbane, for some reason I just assumed it was Sydney

I think SQ is having major issues displaying partner status.

I just completed travels with 3 others, 2 of us had VA Gold Status and 2 had no status with NZ yet for some reason none of the status appeared except for one of the boarding passes which displayed "NZ Partner Silver".

Needless to say, displaying the card was sufficient in all ports except Hanoi on a Silk Air flight where they seemed to think I was showing a Star Gold card.

Not strictly answering the question but I flew SYD-SIN-PEN return in late 2016 using my SQ FF# since I did the Infinite Journeys status match. I waved my VA SG at the lounge all four times and was let in.

It depends which program you want the point etc to credit.

The experience you will receive will be identical. However, if you use your VA number make sure you obtain a printed boarding pass and it will have "PARTNER PRIORITY" printed on it.

This was my experience this week as a VA Plat on SQ.
