I thought someone might have had this experience. I am VA platinum and last year bought a very cheap fare to the US (formerly V-Saver) and attempted to use my points to upgrade to Y+ only to be told that I was in the wrong fare bucket to do so *d'oh*. My bad here, I should have read the t & c's.
Now I am booking a paid Y+ fare with the hope of using my points to get into J. I am reading the t & c's about upgrades carefully this time and came across the following:
'18.3.2 Flight Upgrades may be requested only on international long haul flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia, with a Virgin Australia flight number (VA).'
The reason I am asking is I found a nice Y+ fare to SAN (understanding that the LAX - SAN segment will be in Y) on expedia, that is sold as a Delta ticket, operated on VA. I am expecting that this means that I will not be able to upgrade, as the fare was not sold by VA. Would you guys assume that is correct? No chance in getting a response from VA at the moment with all the Sabre business, so thought I would ask here. If it was a super discount fare I would not expect to be able to upgrade, but given that it is a Y+ fare I thought there might be a chance?
Any insights are appreciated.
