Hi All,
Looking for some advice re VA's excellent family pooling program and an upcoming trip to Europe on Singapore Air.

After achieving VA platinum via family pooling all 5 of us on recent trips I am now not sure whether to pool our trip to Paris by pooling points again via VFF or whether to register the KF numbers and everyone gather their own KF status and points in their individual KF accounts?

I believe their is no status accrual if we use our VFF number on the SIN flights but we would get status on KF.

Can I capitalize on the KF status later by transferring VFF points into KF? Do KF let you pool status?

Any tips or advice appreciated.

Cheers.:?:

SQ wont let you pool anything. I had to move my hubbys left over points from SQ to VA, VA pooled into my account and then back to SQ. It was a loss of about 0.6% but better then not being able to use them at all.

I think the only way for you to get points on an SQ flight (if it is booked via SQ and not via VA and then codeshare), then you all have to register for your individual accounts. Then probably do what I did unless you decide to sit on the points for a while. They are valid for 3 years so you have some time to move or use them.

Also, as far as I know, you have to physically fly with SQ to gain status. It can not be done via pooling.

I think I'm understanding you correctly-sorry if not:

You should get VA Status credits on flights with SQ numbers as long as they are in eligible fare classes (check on the VA site). You will also get points but you won't get any status bonuses

Most people report that you won't be able to select priority seating using your VA Plat if is it an SQ flight number

KF status cannot be pooled, nor does it offer advantages for points transfer (except that you would be earning more KF points if you did get status)

Unless you plan to fly SQ (or other Star Alliance) regularly in the future, I expect you would be better off using the SQ flights to requal for VA or pool to another family member so they have some status in their own right

Thanks to you both. Reckon I will register VFF numbers for all and requal as plat again. Family pooling is great when you have four kids and travel once or twice a year. It's just the perks of plat seem quite low with VA.

Anyone know of any other airline programs with flights from Australia that offers family pooling of points and status?

I think VA is unique in status pooling

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

As mentioned, you will earn VA status credits and points if you put your VFF number on the flights. You won't get any status bonus points if it's SQ flight number.

SQ seat selection is poor regardless of whether you book SQ or VA code flight.

If you are already platinum then you can just keep pooling to your own account and once you reach 1,500 points you can gift gold to one of your family members, this should be easily achievable with 2 adults and 4 kids flying on the same booking.

VA is unique with family pooling
