VA economy food & drinks

I took red rooster on to a Sydney to Gold Coast flight in Early May 2021 & they did not seem to care.

Unless "they" had a rule prohibiting hot food (because of how smells permeate through enclosed spaces), why would "they" care? Less commission revenue is the only other reason that springs to mind.

I don’t think VA2 or JQ do - I’ve seen KFC on VA2 recently and it was very obvious, crew didn’t do anything so can’t be against their rules.

Possibly if someone nearby complained, it would be a different story. I've always considered it really rude to bring hot fried food on any form of PT though. Also fishy things. Anything smelly, actually.

Personally I would never do it so I agree with you, but I also have a choice of carrier I suppose and both VA2 and JQ are operating in a section of the market where that type of behaviour is more likely to happen.... so I have to accept that possibility.

The VA2 cleaning crew would have been annoyed as the family dropped chips and gravy on the floor of the aircraft and that stuff isn’t coming out without a deep clean!

Having analysed the menu after a recent flight, I realised just how restrictive it is for single flyers.

$12 for a small Wine!! Compare that to $9 on Jetstar or $15 tasting plate with premium olives + cheese & crackers!

Spirits with a mixer $1 cheaper on JQ whilst I can choose 3 Beers or a Cider all for only $9 but on VA, 3 different prices & recent flight, only Great Northern available.

Re : taking own food onboard - I once took a falafel wrap onboard QF BNE-SIN. Purchased it just before boarding, so I think I remember it was fresh off the press, so hot to touch. I always order falafel with garlic & chili sauce, so I'm sure it would have been pungent ... but I think it didn't "smell" as much. I ate it right after the seat belt sign was turned off.

I was flying J on that trip, but why did I purchase my own food - now, that's a whole different story! ;)

4 friends, 4 bottles of Ballentines, up "working" until 5 AM, rushed to airport to take the 7:30 (or so, can't remember) service from SYD to BNE. Had to run across the airport, with a QF ground staff taking one of my carry on bags ... why? because, to my embarrassment, forgot my pant belts. So used one of my hands to hold my pants as I ran across the terminal. Slept through the SYD-BNE flight. Woke up on the landing approach, told the FA that I was "working" late and forgot to pre-order my meals and I'm a vego. SYD-BNE flight staff were kind enough to make a snack box for me so that I can eat in my next leg. But I was still in the "working" phase, I forgot that I was given a snack box, so I purchased a falafel in BNE before boarding.

Not a pretty story, but something that is so memorable. Why ? because that was the last time the 4 of us friends had a drink together, in a long time and it's been a long time ... Hopeful that borders open up very soon!

Re: feeling the need to flyi without being able to take off on a plane/international flight, youtube is your friend, you can watch all the planes taking off and landing, without actually doing the flying.
Granted, youtube has now got a lot of ads from a certain fed MP who has taken over from Clive about the UAP, but it does sate my appetite for flights.

Jetstar does offer hot food though. Seems to always sell out especially on the longer missions. They have toasties available which does come in handy on some of the longer evening flights especially if I’m running late.
