VA economy food & drinks

is it true that no food is offered (sold) on board from east to west coast on VA economy?
Other than a small snack and water you are quite right.

Inflight service and seating

We have reduced our inflight catering to reduce contact between guests and our crew during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Business cabin: Each guest will receive a snack box containing a selection of delicious pre-packaged foods appropriate to the time of day. A range of hot and cold drinks, including beer and wine, are available on all flights.

Economy cabin: A complimentary snack and water will be offered on all flights. The sale of food and beverages onboard has been temporarily paused.
To me that reads all domestic services including transcon.

Some people are carrying on KFC etc for their meals according to instagram stories 😂

Not sure how nice cold KFC is going to be though unless the staff would heat it up in the oven for you (not!).

Considering the grease, If I have to eat it I think it’s better cold.

Just pretend we are in America and grab a family supreme with thick crust on the way through the terminal, because your fellow adjacent passenger will appreciate it as well.

Flew Brisbane to Perth and back 10th-18th. Going over we were given a bag of nuts early on, then a choc orange biscuit towards the end. Coming back it was a choc orange biscuit early on and bag of chickpea snack and choc orange biscuit later on. Get some food in the lounge beforehand if possible!

Guess we have to get used to going back to taking along a visa/mastercard of the credit/debit variety or amex/diners onto VA flights again, and be ready to use them, when food buying gets back to normal on shorter flights.
OP brings up a good point though, in Y, what will be provided on trans Au flights, ie, longer domestic flights.
What can we buy, will they say, "oh, item not available..." etc.
Will VA2/VA3 become like JQ where we have to buy sandwiches on board, and we are not allowed to bring our own hot food onboard, as it might "cause offence".
Would probably now with Bain in control, it would be more than Aud$13 for a sandwich and a drink, than what it was before we had the luxury of some things included in the fare when JB took over.
Of course, this is just presupposition, as JH has not mentioned anything about menu prices of food onboard flights under Bain.
Edit, cut and paste, from the VA website:

I wonder if VA2 will match JQ's economy offering. Will be interesting. At the moment not so much differentiating their offering....

Here's the economy menu, sales will be down with these prices.

A little on the expensive side. How does it compare to the Deathstar offerings?
I have never really understood how people going on a 1-2hr flight which is about all most Australian routes are can’t go without F&B for that length of time or bring their own

Having flown both Jetstar and Virgin in the last week my pick would now be Jetstar. For 2 main reasons. Luggage. With kids, I much prefer the weight system and being able to bring as many smaller bags as we like within the total weight limit. The 1 x 23kg bag each on Virgin is restrictive and annoying have to take much larger suit cases. And secondly, the food offering on Jetstar is miles ahead what is available on Virgin. Only thing that brings me back to Virgin is the terminal experience in Melbourne is way better than Jetstar.

But it is very obvious now that Virgin is competing with Jetstar, not Qantas.

Are VA FA pushing for sales, is the next question to ask.
Ie, if lets say, you are doing your own thing, looking out the window/daydreaming/reading a book/doing work on laptop/ipad in flight mode, do they ask if you want a snack/drink to buy?
Like in some work places, its all KPI, ie, the most sales gets the most commission, and that particular person is a ahead by a few $/work points.

Flew Virgin in economy today.
Tea or coffee and or water was good, the food menu on VA was dire i was looking to purchase a sandwich or wrap but there aren’t a lot of food options and no real promotion from the cabin crew.

i thought the experience is better than flying Jetstar as i know i can buy a better seat and there are lounges in the major cities but they need to increase the food options, maybe they need to do a promotion with 7 Eleven.

There's no sandwiches because they would need to be made fresh. Nothing on that menu is fresh.

That said, the prices don't seem any worse than last time I flew VA. I love those Moreish nuts. :)

I think this is an interim menu. Let things stabilise a bit more as they have to most likely re establish their credit rating with Gate Gourmet!
