VA flight deck security

I've noticed on my last couple of VA flights that anytime the CSM goes onto the flight deck, or either of the flight crew come out, one of the other FA's stands at the front of the cabin, looking stern and glaring at anyone who dares walk up the aisle.

Clearly an in-house security precaution as I've not seen it on QF, JQ or others, but I wonder why? Did VA have a flight deck incident? Can anyone shed light?

Edit: amended thread heading from "coughpit" to "flight deck" so as not to offend those who work there.

Saw this on A Tiger Airways flight years ago so it must be a CASA regulation.

Re: VA flight deck security

I have seen it on QF recently so it does happen.

Have also seen this quite frequently in the US. They go one step further and pull out a galley cart and park it in the aisle as well.

Re: VA flight deck security

I've seen it in the US and the guy who I suspect is a marshal in row 3 looked extra observant while the door was open.

Re: VA flight deck security

Fair enough then. Thanks all. I'll be extra observant on future QF & JQ flights to see if they're doing it too. Maybe they're just more subtle.

On a VA flight to the US earlier this year I was kept in the bathroom while the coughpit door was opened and closed. I have no issue with it, I understand it's for everyone's safety.

There was that incident in bali. I started to notice it around the same time. Could just be a coincidence though.
Certainly a common occurrence in the US though.

VA have been doing it for years.. It isn't new.

Never seen it NOT done on a VA flight when staff access the flight deck or flight crew leave it...

Re: VA flight deck security

I have seen this on most VA flight I have travelled on over the last year at least.

Re: VA flight deck security

Mmm, thinking about it, perhaps its always been this way but something is making it more overt. I've probably started noticing for about the last 9 months or so. The fact that suddenly out of no-where I started to notice means to me that something about the process changed. Perhaps they always used to keep the curtain closed and now they don't??
