Note large price differential on J class between Q and V.
Any insights and comments on the V cabin and service appreciated.

I'm heavily biased towards them anyway but I'd take V Australia over Qantas anyday, I haven't flown with either internationally (Or internationally full stop for that matter ).

Take a look at the V Australia cabin for yourself: V australia

Flying with VA you also get access to the AirNZ Koru Lounge and if you need to take a flight on Virgin Blue to get to your VA departure port you will be seated in the Premium Economy cabin

I’ve only flown VA from SYD-NAN in J but I really liked it and we’re about to book SYD-LAX in July with VA instead of QF. The aircraft is very modern, the J cabin feels spacious and generous, the seats are good, if not a little understated compared to QF’s Skybed, and it all feels very special, from the subtle lighting to the Riedel glassware. The food and wine is as good as QF’s J, in my view, and the entertainment system is perhaps a bit better. As an added bonus, with VA you turn left into J, whereas with QF you turn right and that’s never the way you want to turn on entering an airplane. :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

+1 for Homers review. I flew JHB to MEL with V in J ... Great service, good food, seats were good and relatively new.. Am flying to Abu Dhabi with them this month and LAX in April... Very impressed with them and highly recommend the J product...

Wife and I would like to visit USA mainland again after many years absence, have stacks of QFF points for at least one J seat but unless we book about a a year out cant get a one using points (ridiculous), so thinking we might jump ship (get no Qff points) and go with V in J after reading a lengthy (experienced) J travellers report with pics on another forum, excellent food, service and ambience, also, the price is about 40% less too, and don't seem to go up or down during peak periods, V OZ looks excellent to me.

2 trips to HKT and 1 to LAX ex BNE last year, all in J. I can thoroughly recommend the service, food, IFE and the wine list is not too shabby either.
The bar is a great idea as well. You can sit on one of 4 stools or stand whilst imbibing.
The flat bed is also good, I had no trouble getting a few hours sleep to and from LAX. Mind you the dessert wine at the bar probably helped.

Personally, I like heading upstairs if I can (depends on the airline though - Air Pacific I'd rather turn left, but a QF A380 or 747 definitely upstairs - unless in F of course!) ;)

And of course some F, like the wonderful EK F on the A380, is upstairs but you don’t have to walk up there as they have an air bridge so you can board at the top level. In fact EK discourages the use of the stairs on their 380 - in the EK F flights I’ve had the stairs have been blocked by a rope/ribbon.

But even though it’s upstairs, you still turn left. ;)
