Hi everyone, after just coming home from US, our penultimate flight was a Delta from LAS to LAX. I decided to treat DW and myself to First Class tickets for the flight. However when we arrived at the airport for check-in we were downgraded to PE. The guy at the check-in counter said because the aircraft had changed from Boeing 717 to Embraer 190 and the number of F seats had been reduced, some passengers were downgraded. We were offered $200 flight vouchers are compensation for SkyTeam airlines.
As this LAS to LAX flight was our last US domestic before heading home I have a feeling these vouchers are now useless as no Australian aircraft is a member of SkyTeam. Another couple downgraded were British, is Delta playing funny buggers here by downgrading non North Americans then offering useless vouchers?
Is there anyway we can use these for short-haul international or Australian domestic flights? Of course these are non-transferable so they can't be sold and used by anyone else and need to be booked on the Delta website.

For travel in the US airlines are required to refund you the difference between the cabins in the event of a downgrade. The offer of vouchers is a courtesy to offset the inconvenience. The gate agent probably isn't to know you have no use for the vouchers - that's up to you to advise. I'd email Delta and ask for the refund between cabins if you haven't already done that.

Thanks for the response MEL_Traveller,
We definitely told the gate agent that we had no use for the vouchers as we were going home to Ausrtalia, but was told it was either that or nothing. Now to take it up with Delta directly. Thanks.
