Hello,
I am planning a trip next year and was wondering if anyone could assist with the best usage of my points for the following sectors:

SYD - TEL AVIV (QANTAS to BKK or HK) and then EL AL to TEL AVIV?
TEL AVIV to BUDAPEST - (EL AL to London, MALEV to Budapest)?
BUDAPEST to TOKYO (MALEV to Frankfurt or London; QANTAS to TOKYO)?
TOKYO to SYD (JAL or QANTAS)?

Looking for the minimal usage of my points - although i realise I will probably have to go through the call centre for this one.

Cheers,

Japansuki

Note that it may be more "economical" to use a OneWorld award, which rules out using El Al. So would mean routing via London to get to Tel Aviv. You could use any combination of OneWorld airlines to get to London, including QF, BA, CX, AY, JL. Europe to Tokyo will need to be BA or JL from London or AY from Helsinki.

So you could route something like this:

SYD-(BA/QF/CX)-LHR-(BA)-TLV-(MA)-BUD-(MA)-HEL-(AY)-NRT-(QF/JL)-SYD for just under 25,000 flown miles and 142,500 points in economy.

NM has just about covered everything. Note the Oneworld award is 140,000 QFF points and the assisted booking fee is currently 3,500 QFF points and will soon increase to 6,000 QFF points.

I believe you can pay $60 for the assisted booking fee to avoid using QFF points.

You can also connect from Qantas onto Royal Jordanian in Bangkok to fly via Amman to Tel Aviv. I don't know what the connection is like, but it has the double plus of avoiding flying all the way to Heathrow and then back-tracking, and you don't run the risk of Terminal 5's baggage system.

Yes, and I recently found out I can also fly to BKK on QF and then EL AL direct to Tel Aviv for total 65K one way plus 3.5K to book thru call centre. One way using one world via London is 84K - an extra 15K one way...

However, the oneworld award that has been suggested costs 140000 points and could cover all of your desired travel including getting to tel aviv via London. The down side being that ElAl can't be used but royal Jordan could be used.

This sounds good. So for 140,000 QFF miles, what would the route be then if going via London? I though SYD - LON is 64K one way + an additional 20K to get to Tel aviv on BA?

NM Provided a sample routing for you in post #2.

SYD-(BA/QF/CX)-LHR-(BA)-TLV-(MA)-BUD-(MA)-HEL-(AY)-NRT-(QF/JL)-SYD for just under 25,000 flown miles and 142,500 points in economy. Actually it should be 143,500 QFF points and from May 1 (?) it will be 146,000 QFF points.

Basically a Oneworld award allows

- up to 35,000 miles, 16 sectors and 5 stopovers
- up to 2 transits are allowed in any one city and 1 stopover
- 2 Airlines other than Qantas must be used
- It is a series of one-way flights (back-tracking allowed) and distance is calculated back to starting point

If these conditions are met then it is classed as a Oneworld award and capped at 140,000 QFF points if booked online or the figures quoted above if using the QF service centre.

One disadvantage is you cannot use non-Oneworld flight (eg SAA, El Al etc).

This is Fantastic - I had no idea I could do it this way with this amount of points. So all I need to do is contact oneworld at the 1300 number and they can book it with my QFF points or do I need to book it through the QFF call centre? Thanks for your help!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

First off trying to replicate the itinerary online using the QF award booking engine. This will at least give the feel of what routings are possible.

If you cannot book online then you need to call QF service centre not Oneworld.

Any reason why I can't find 'Amman' from the pull down menu when booking a 'multi-city' award flight? Trying to find a route SYD - BKK - AMMAN - TEL AVIV.....

You book through Qantas Frequent Flyer. Its a Qantas Frequent Flyer redemption that they happen to call a OneWorld Award. Its not a OneWorld product, though many of the OneWorld Alliance FF programs offer a similar product,

Unfortunately there are way too many Oneworld destinations to list on QF award booking engine.

If your destination is not listed then you will need to call QF service centre and plan an itinerary with them and when you are happy with the final details you can book it.
