Hi folks,

I'm heading off to LAX in Jan 2019 for a conference in San Diego.
Then, I'm looking to head to Mexico CIty to do some sight seeing.
If I'm not far off from qualifying for Virgin Platinum - which airlines should I consider making bookings from LAX to Mexico City return? (Unless its cheaper to go via another airport e.g. Tijuana or Vegas?)

Ideally the airline should not only give me points and status credits but allow lounge access.

I know that you might say, check the Virgin website but I got caught out on a previous trip using an airline listed on the Virgin website only to find that it didn't generate any of the above mentioned benefits.

regards

Delta is your friend.
You will earn points and SC’s on DL flights.
Going by the VA website it appears you would get lounge access at LAX but not MEX although others may know more

When travelling Delta always worth checking Premium Economy (and higher sometimes) prices. Often little more $ for lots more SCs and points

Delta is your friend on this, just ensure that the flights are operated by Delta and not their partner Aeromexico.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Have a look at delta, make sure it's operated by them as you may find some DL codeshare that are actually operated by Aeromexico which won't count for points and SCs. One of my relatives had that recent issue and got zero, nada SCs

Why not check out Delta? there are no magic secret airlines that you can earn points/status on. Whats listed on the VFF website is it.
Be aware that some Delta flights/classes will earn zero FF points or status. Always check the fare class and refer back to the VFF earn tables to check.

All DL*DL USA domestic flights booked in revenue classes earn points & SC's, including those operated by Compass for Delta.

Code shares may not.
