Hi people,

Have a problem with my brother's passport.

He was in Turkey and the photo faded away somehow, along with some of the heading textImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1390006441.998707.jpg

I wonder if it was the humidity from staying a month in a tent in the Turkish winter...

His British passport was unaffected so entry and exit from Thailand was ok (except he overstayed, but that only cost 2000thb)

He came back into Au via smart gate so all went well, but we leave again on Sunday for Japan.

The question I have is should we be running to aus post to get priority processing or go to the passport office on Monday and see if they can reissue it without a lower fee, as it still has 4 it's remaining?

Thanks!

Straight to the passport office on Monday for priority replacement. The fee is $108 plus cost of passport and a new passport is provided, you lose any remaining validity on the existing passport.

Agree. Make sure he takes the necessary completed forms to the passport office and pics so it can be lodged there and then.

Looks like it got wet somehow.

One of the reasons I hate countries where the law is that you are meant to carry a passport at all times.
I generally have a colour photocopy of the main page (though theoretically should also carry a copy of the relevant visa stamp).

Have seen in some particular humid countries (Thailand) that enterprising locals will make a double sided credit card sized copy containing both,

Technically it didn't get wet, though the tent was apparently quite humid at times. Thanks for the responses, will get the forms now.

I wonder if they will waive the replacement fee if this was just due to humidity rather than any act of the bearer?

Hmmm, not many organisations waive the opportunity to make money...
