Met spend criteria on MC within a few weeks, bonus points credited on the second statement.

Very happy.

Third statement for me, points posted today though I earned them during the second statement period.

I think it will soon be time to cancel the Westpac MC & my AMEX Explorer, but keep the Westpac AMEX until the annual fee comes up. Get the offers and also hit reset on AMEX 18 months...

hit reset on AMEX 18 months...

Gotta do it. I have about 5 more months to go on my 18 month exclusion period from AMEX. The game is ALWAYS changing and you have to keep yourself ready to pounce on the next opportunity. Golden rule for me is never do what a bank wants you to do :)

It's finally been 90 days + the completion of a statement cycle since I met my spend back in October and no bonus points.

Called up Westpac - rewards team said they could see a previous card that was still open and hence disqualified me from the bonus. Told them it had most definitely been closed and after a few minutes for them to consult with another department (rewards team can't really do much other than rewards it seems) they got their system updated and the points will manually credit on the next statement.

Good to finally get them, a pain that it took so long as it just pushed back the next churn a few more months than would be optimal!

They appear to be outside their T&C's of posting points within 90 days of spend being met. Hit them up for compensation. Good chance of getting annual fee reimbursed or extra points awarded.

Agree. Mistake to let them walk away from this without compensation.

If they weren't going to pay the points they had 3 months to let you know.

Out of interest, In peoples experience, what would be a reasonable amount of additional points to ask for as compensation in a case like this? Refund on annual fee not really relevant given it was already waved as part of the offer.

Annual fee was free so no use chasing that. I'll raise a complaint and see where I get to.

Complaint was raised through the standard feedback and complaints portal. I asked for 20,000 points compensation - got a call today from a rep who offered me 10k and said "Qantas points are worth quite a bit so we can't offer you 20,000". He was also going to chase up to ensure the points were properly credited, with the caveat that it would take until the next statement for them to arrive.

So better than nothing after the mucking around.

What the rep meant was, "Qantas points are too expensive for us to give you 20,000."

anyone know whether you can cancel the Westpac Mastercard but keep the AMEX card open? Wouldn't mind holding onto the AMEX card until my 18 months with Amex runs its course !

Log in to Westpac internet banking and you can cancel the Mastercard from there. I cancelled my Mastercard right after receiving the points and am keeping the Amex until right before the anniversary date.

Do DEFT payments with CC count as part of the spending req?
