Excellent value for me. Original booking I used a code to get 10% off so total with the upgrade was $431, price for business today is $1791
Yes, I know. At that price, I may start buying VA and hope for an upgrade each time. I don't think there should be any problem as no one in their right mind would pay the ridiculous J price outright.

Given that was $10 over the minimum, it's incredible value. What was the basis of the original fares? Freedom perhaps?

They were getaway fares at $202 one way. Don't know whether being WP helped. Maybe it was because we then freed up row 3 economyx that they could (and did) resell. Very happy with the result

That's a fantastic result!!

I've never submitted a $$ upgrade me bid on VA (I'm 1 from 2 for Singapore Airlines though) I've always used points, usually for afternoon peak flights BNE-SYD after a day trip...sometimes you just really can't face being crammed in Y when you're already exhausted and in a bad mood :)

I may just have made a rod for my own back here.

Wife and I are booked Amex Plat Edge free flights PER-ADL with travel on Friday for the Ashes. Minimum bid $150, I bid $160 each.

Put my wife's upgrade bid in first reasoning that she would have priority if we entered the same bid as we are both Red. She family pools to me so I hold the points and some SC mostly from Coles.

Turns out the bid of $160 for myself has cleared. Nothing for her, still 1 J seat left on sale so hoping something happens for her closer to departure. I have bumped up her bid to $200 to hopefully help that along.

I will end up asking the FA if we can swap so she sits in J but would rather not have to have the discussion.

I live to fly another day.

My wife's upgrade cleared this morning taking the $200 bid over a points wait list.

I am in a similar boat!

Partner and I are booked on ANZ Travel Adventures free flights PER-MEL this Saturday (return leg) and today I put in minimum bids for both of us at $340 (A330) at approx T-47 hours - hers first for a similar reason as you, however she is Gold and I’m Red. Mine was confirmed within 30 min and hers is still pending. Interestingly Virgin have preauthorised the charge on credit card for both mine and hers.

Catch here is that she has our 9 month old son attached to her booking. Hopefully that doesn’t preclude the upgrade clearing, otherwise I’ll be having the same discussion that I don’t want to have!

Does anyone know why Virgin have preauthorised the charge for hers when it hasn’t cleared and whether an infant will rule out a paid upgrade?

More than half the J cabin has available seats at T-36 hours.

How do you know it took priority over a points waitlist? Or were you also waitlisted yourself and they took the $$ over your points?

There will not be much of a discussion. You will be in Y and she (and baby) will be in J...

She had a both a points waitlist upgrade and a cash upgrade bid.

The cash bid cleared.

My cash bid had been accepted earlier.

Partner’s upgrade cleared at T-26 hours. Not sure why they authorised credit card immediately and took almost 24 hours to confirm the uograde. Checked t&c’s after confirmation and they state that only $1.00 will be authorised on card initially.

Darwin to Perth cheapest economy $340x2 on 8 Feb. extra $160 each bid. Accepted 3 days before.
Less than full economy.!!!! but only 15 SC each. Only 5 out of 8 seats occupied.

So I guess they are happy to take your money and it is off-season on that route.

Syd-LST accepted at the original lowest allowed bid of $120aud at T-75. A second ticket was bid at $110 (special lower bids until end of March). The second bid was refused.

BNE-CNS. $115. Minimum bid. Successful
CNS-BNE $140. Also minimum bid and successful
No extra sc but in reality for a 2.5hr flt not bad value
