Just wondering for those members of QR if you've had much success with upgrading with Qcredits and Qmiles especially on the Oz - Doha legs?

Are you successful >50% of the time?

Burgundy here but wondering what things are like at the higher levels. Upgrades are the only reason I'm planning on using this FFP.

More than 50%! HA!

Sorry.

Platinum here: successful less than 25% of the time. The only way I can make it seem like more often is to get a Qatar Airways actual office to book me not DOH-SYD but DOH-ADL-SYD. I can then often get the bump to J for DOH-ADL but *and please note* the ADL-SYD is not mileage earning. Because they put you into a non-mileage-earning fare bucket!

Every year I end up with Qcredits that I cannot spend -- they expire, too bad, so sad. I was one of their first Platinum members when they added the tier.

With Qmiles, I'd suggest that upgrades from J to F are a lot easier to get -- but there are few opportunities now, and they are restricting DOH-LHR for upgrades it seems.

Your mileage, as always, may vary.

Appreciate your experience!

Totally wish >50% was true although I guess that's wishful thinking of any FFP. Maybe I should aim for 33%?

Hmmm that really stinks. I was supposed to fly SYD-DOH-ZRH tonight but had to cancel last minute as the pooch has been unwell. I was emailed an offer to upgrade Y to J so I figure Q credits would have gone through ahead of emailed upgrade offers (at least on this leg)?

Interesting you have more luck with Qmiles. This is really different from Air NZ where they put the recognition upgrades ahead of one ups.

Yeah I did read on their website that upgrades J to F were a no no DOH-LHR. I haven't started accruing to QR yet. Probably requires more input and thought than originally.

Good outcome upgrading Y to J with Q credits in Sep on four sectors PNH/MUC/VCE/DOH/PNH. Booked into V sub class for all sectors - at local QR office - and paid. Then burnt 40 Q credits on married sectors PNH/MUC before my plat tier anniversary date. Used next tranche of Q credits post anniversary ( renewed Plat) to upgrade VCE/DOH and DOH/PNH. These two sectors are unmarried. I'm stopping over in Doha for a few days. Data point to share. The V sub class has the least restrictive change costs/penalties in the QR Y saver family. This gives me some comfort if all goes pear shaped since original paid booking class rules apply. Cheers, PJ

Hi guys,

I'm currently researching Qatar as an alternative FFP to Etihad now that Etihad have pulled out of Perth.

I fly Perth-Dublin a couple of times a year. Previously I was able to instantly upgrade Y cash fares with miles if there was availability- easily worked out before booking the fare.

Is this not the case with Qatar? Is it like other airlines where you have to apply?
