Hi there,
I am on multiple city ticket BNE SYD SIN own way to HKG back to BNE.
I am currently on N (Bris to Sing) and Q (HKG to BNE) booking code and you can't upgrade on these codes.
My question is could I call up QF (am a gold) and pay to upgrade to the next booking class in Y which allows to upgrade? And then try to upgrade to J?
Thanking you in advance
Ian

Re: Upgrade

You should be able to upgrade booking class.

But note you will need to pay any change fees associated with ticket purchased, difference in airfare and possibly a service fee as well.

It may not be cheap at all and at the end of the day all you get is the opportunity to go into the upgrade lottery. No guarantee your upgrade will come through. Is it really worth that much trouble?

Re: Upgrade

When are you looking at flying?

This is stretching your luck even further, but Qantas in the past has allowed usually non-upgradable fares to apply for upgrades, so waiting it out could also be an option. Sometimes you'll receive an email with an offer to do so, or other times there's a quick in the system and keen members around here pick up on it (http://www.australianfrequentflyer....rogram/promo-ended-deep-discount-y-51385.html)!

Re: Upgrade

Ring and ask, but you'll find that if you got a pretty good deal originally, you may have to pay close to the entire price of the ticket just to change the fare class and still sit in Y. I once enquired about changing an O class QF93/94 return to a higher discount Y bucket that earned more on AA and yes, found that it was close to paying for another discounted Y ticket to move from a discount Y fare bucket to another discount Y fare bucket :!:

If you want to change to full fare Y to get more SCs, it may be cheaper to go to PE or J.. or just save your money and put it towards something more worthwhile...

Edit: here it is:

Re: Upgrade

You can definitely do it, all QF or your TA depending on where the ticket was purchased will do is cost the new ticket (in for instance V class), minus off what you paid plus a reissue fee and you're then on an upgradeable fare and can request the upgrade.

Sounds a bit like buying an expensive lottery ticket ;)

Absolutely, as a previous poster mentioned, it'd not likely to be cheap and you're just as likely to find yourself flying in Y but paying a heck of alot more for the same seat.
